Year 800 of the Common Era.

In this year, supernatural cycles brought Earth on a collision course with an alternate dimension and the consequences of such a visit were much more drastic than the times it has happened before. Beginning in Japan, an outpouring of otherdimensional creatures known as «aradama» sparked a silent war between them and humanity that has been ongoing since that century. The only people with the power to oppose these interdimensional creatures are warrior-maidens given the name of «Toji».

Already a millennium has passed since the dawn of the war but the passage of time has done nothing to alleviate the fighting; a status quo has been maintained throughout time. However, this would all change when Japan held the 132nd Annual Swordsmanship Tournament. With that as a stage, a chain reaction of events began rippling throughout the island nation of Japan and these ripples do not merely stop in the archipelago———

Valkyries and Blade Dancers

This was what Maihime heard and relayed to her companions on the battery-powered radio she had on her person. The volcano itself was still erupting, as can be seen from the ash spewing out and blocking out the sky. Even as far as they were, the sky had gone black and they were able to see sparks of red on the horizon in the direction of the volcano they had just left. However, with both Mahime’s and Suzuran’s [Magan] at their disposal, they were able to safely traverse the darkened landscape, considering they both can see in the dark. 


“The news outlets sure aren’t forgiving of the government, huh?” Noa said matter-of-factly. 


“Well, as a matter of fact, it was us that caused the eruption,” Maihime shrugged. “All of you rampaged far too much. As a result, you weakened the stability of the volcano and hastened a volcanic eruption that may have been far in the future… Especially you, Manaka, your Hachimanriki is far too dangerous.”
