I hated how disappointed I felt, and also how helpless. However, the feeling of Anthony's hand twitching in mine gave me hope. I leaned in closer to get a clearer look at his face as the three of us huddled close to his hospital bed. His hand was twitching ever so slightly once again in mine, but this time something felt very different. It felt like I could not just feel his movement but also see it as I stared closely at his eyelids.
"His eyelids are moving. I'm sure of it," I said excitedly.
"As I said, these are nothing but random movements," Diana said, but this time her eyes focused on Anthony's face.
It felt like the air in the room shifted as the three of us focused our attention on Anthony's eyes to monitor their movements. When his eyelashes fluttered, I knew for certain that I hadn't just imagined things.
"Please wake up," I said as I gave his hand a squeeze.
