Motivation to live

Dan took another bite of the food from his plate and peeked at Ian's parents who were silently eating their food. It was like a tradition to eat silently and only talk at the beginning or the end of the meal.

"They are just as boring as their dumbass son." Dan thought. Their dumbass son had done Dan great injustice. Ian had actually thought that the existence of metahumans, a group of powerful humans capable of superhuman feats was not as important as the latest movies and games which had caused the memory of metahumans to be buried beneath the layers of Ian's memories. And this had kept Dan in the shadow, unaware of metahuman's existence.

Fortunately, the news article had made Dan aware of metahumans.

The wave of supernatural events that had caused the animals and plants to grow and mutate hadn't left the humans out. Humans had grown too but not in size like animals and plants. They had grown in a way that was only seen in fiction before.

There were two groups of metahumans: warriors and psychics. Warriors were those who had something called heart core in their heart and were capable of doing physical tasks that a normal human could only dream of doing while psychics had that core in their brain and were called mental core. Psychics had numerous abilities like telepathy, and telekinesis just to name a few.

And what were those cores made of? Mana, the same thing responsible for the mutation of plants and animals.

It was fascinating that humans could achieve what only fictional characters could do back in Dan's world. A revelation that had changed his whole perspective of this world and his newly gained life. It had given him the motivation to live and become a metahuman, fulfilling the wish that he had of wielding supernatural powers back in his world.

And while researching about metahumans, Dan had also watched some videos about the monsters and the trees that had grown beyond their limits. And horrifying was probably an understatement, to say the least.

The monsters were at least a couple of stories tall and Dan didn't even want to think about the worms and centipedes that he had seen in those videos. And that snake which was like Titanoboa had returned.

Dan shivered slightly and shook his head to push those memories out of his head.

The world outside the walls surrounding Zyron was extremely dangerous and the only people who left the city were metahumans or only select few capable normal humans. And the mode of transportation had changed too.

There were only two options for mode of transportation while leaving the city, Airships which were large balloons filled with helium or just military trucks. And both of them needed at least ten to twenty psychics to travel safely. Otherwise, it would be a suicide and a massacre.

"We're leaving Ian. Stay at home, OK. If you need to go outside, don't forget to close the windows and lock the door. "Dan was pulled out of his thoughts by the opening of the front door. His dad was already outside and his mom was standing at the door with a bag in her hands. She smiled at Dan and waved.

"Ok," Dan nodded and waved at her as she closed the door, leaving Dan at the kitchen table with his half-finished.

He quickly finished eating and washed the dishes. The plan for the day was to understand more about the metahumans and how to become one and also learn more about the economic and political state of the world.

The government here was different than the one on Dan's earth. Here, there were no countries and only continental governments which governed a single continent.

There were three continents in this world each run by a continental government. The continent that Zyron city was under was called Acacia. The other two continents were Cyrnia and Atlanta.

But just like countries continents too had presidents and politicians that run the continent while cities were run by mayors. Not much different from countries except in size.

Dan finished his chores and went back upstairs, ready to begin his research.
