Nerd

Dan lay down on the bed, his eyes wide open in the darkness of his room. Soft moonlight filtered through the glass window right above his head. It was his second day in this world but it felt like ages to Dan.

At first, he had been in denial of this second life but now that he thought about it, it was a blessing for him who craved to become a supernatural being like those fictional characters back in his world.

Obviously, as he grew older, the craving died down but it hadn't completely vanished. That was probably the reason that he had taken up gaming as the virtual reality games provided a realistic experience of what it was to hold magical powers.

But it wasn't real and now that Dan had arrived in this world, the craving returned after finding out about metahumans. And Dan was willing to do anything to satisfy that craving.

Then his eyes nearly closed pulling him away from his thoughts. Dan was exhausted and sleepy but before sleeping, he had to do two more things. And both had to do with Lang.

"Lang heal my body faster and notify if there are any changes in my physical attributes. "Dan ordered. Healing his body faster not only accelerated his gains from working out but also helped to avoid the pain the next day due to him over-exerting his body. It was an extremely beneficial ability given to him by Lang.

As for his second order, that was so that he wouldn't have to pull his stats sheet every time to check if his attributes had increased. Both were some adjustments that would make Dan's life easier.

"Acknowledged. "Lang said inside Dan's head in a monotone voice but by that time Dan was in dreamland.

The next day Dan woke up with no headache which meant that he would have to go to school. He had to go. There was no other choice.

"Aghh. Fuck you, Ian. " Dan cursed the poor Ian and got out of bed. He was angry the whole time as he went through his morning routine and before he knew it, he was on his way to school with a small bag on his shoulder and wearing a blue shirt and blue pants, the school uniform.

Dan looked like shit in that uniform but refrained from cursing Ian. It wasn't his fault that he was born ugly.

Dan just hoped that Ian wasn't bullied in school. But considering the shitty luck Dan had since waking up in this body, he doubted he would be left alone at school.

"But I am no pushover like Ian. "Dan muttered.

As the school finally entered his vision, Numerous students in blue could be seen entering the school gate as ants attracted to candy on the ground.

"I, a man in his thirties am really going to school. " Dan thought as the absurdity of the situation finally settled in his mind. But he couldn't quit school. It would not only deprive him of knowledge of this world but might even deprive him of a roof over his head if his new parents decided to kick him out for quitting school. He didn't want that. Not a single bit.

Dan walked up to the school gate and entered the flow of the students. That was when a girl with two pigtails bumped into him in the crowd. She stumbled and balanced herself.

She then looked up to see him and her face contorted in disgust. "You nerd. Get away from me. " She got away from Dan like he was some kind of bug. Her reaction irked Dan but he couldn't blame her. Ian was that kind of guy.

And she was just a kid. He couldn't get angry at her.

"Ha. isn't he that nerd from grade 10. Was he hitting on her or something like that? "A voice whispered behind Dan but he paid it no heed. Dan was already surrounded by students looking at him with different emotions on their face: disgust, pity or amusement.

He was a man, not a child and these were just kids. Kids were just like this, honest and hurtful with their words.

Dan was just thankful that no bully had come out to try to beat him up to be a hero in front of that girl like in movies.

"He should look at his face. She is not someone who would date an ugly guy like him. "

Dan shook his head and walked away, not willing to get made fun of anymore. Even with his justification that they were just kids, he was still a human and had the right to get angry.

"Hey Ian, wait for me. " A voice shouted from Dan's back.

"Now what? " Dan thought as he turned back to look at the one calling him.
