"Marco, with your experience on the battlefield, if a group of people were to attack my territory from the sea, how should I defend it?" Allen asked while patrolling the territory of Rose Town on horseback. Today, Rose Town had undergone a complete transformation. Old dilapidated buildings had been replaced with new houses, and the town's roads were now flat and spacious stone pathways.
The town of Roses had also shifted its focus from solely growing roses to cultivating crops on the fertile land that Alan had provided. This change was aimed at ensuring the townspeople's sustenance and clothing. Previously, Allen had instructed Sparrow to purchase food and clothing for the townspeople, using his own investment to support these necessities. While he aimed to improve their quality of life, he was cautious not to appear overly benevolent, as he didn't want the townspeople to become complacent.
Thanks to Allen's efforts, Rose Town had been completely revitalized. The residents now enjoyed ample food, new clothing, and the opportunity to work hard in cultivating crops for their lord. Marko observed these changes and became increasingly convinced that he was following a remarkable leader and a skilled knight.
"Why do you ask such a question? Although some coastal areas near the Principality have experienced pirate attacks in recent years, Rose Town hasn't been targeted by those pirates," Marco replied respectfully.
"Oh? Marco, remember that you're referring to the former Rose Town," Allen reminded him. "You have to understand that my territory has undergone a complete transformation!"
Marco was taken aback by these words and then paused in thought.
"You're right, my lord. I was neglecting that," Marco admitted. He then shifted his gaze towards the nearby beach.
Surrounded by three mountains, Rose Town was well-protected, leaving only a small stretch of beach along the coast.
"My lord, our geographical advantage lies in the fact that we have limited contact with the ocean. By constructing defense structures about 500 meters from the coast, we can leverage the terrain to position a team of 100 people," Marko suggested.
"If we strategically prepare traps and arrange our forces, we may be able to repel a larger number of enemies."
"Yes, your thoughts align with mine. Currently, we have twenty elite warriors and fifty newly trained soldiers," Allen replied, calmly surveying the distant sea. "We can construct arrow towers on the two surrounding mountains and add two more near the beach."
"With the mountains providing cover, the pirate ships won't detect the arrow towers until they're within our range. By then, it'll be too late for them."
"At the same time, we need to build fortifications here," Allen continued, sharing his strategic insights.
Marco was amazed by Allen's foresight. He hadn't thought things through to this extent. Allen's understanding of battle tactics and fortification placement was akin to that of a seasoned veteran.
"Very well, let's pause the discussion for today. Starting tomorrow, gather the people and begin building the fortifications. As for the arrow towers, we can delay those for now. Our forces can take cover on the hill slopes and rain arrows down on the enemy."
Allen spoke with composure.
"Understood, my lord!" Marco acknowledged, his respect for Allen deepening. He couldn't help but feel that he was following a truly exceptional leader and a skilled strategist.
"Sir, do you truly believe that we'll face an attack on Rose Town?" Marco inquired, curious.
Allen smiled, his expression radiant in the sunlight.
"Marco, we're situated on the Principality's border. We can't afford to be complacent. If we remain vigilant, we can deter any potential threats. And if those ignorant pirates dare to approach, we'll handle them effortlessly and offer them as food to the sea's creatures."
Marco fell silent for a moment, reflecting on Allen's words.
"You're right, sir. As a knight, maintaining constant vigilance is imperative."
"But, my lord, we lack bows and arrows, and we haven't trained archers."
Allen's smile widened as he responded, "We can acquire bows and arrows through purchase, and we can train archers without any archers. Is anything that can be resolved with resources truly a problem?"
Subsequently, the two resumed their tour of the town before returning to the castle. After Marco's departure, Allen sought out Sparrow, the financial officer, who was the expert on managing the treasury.
Allen instructed Sparrow to lead twenty warriors to elon's territory to procure seventy longbows and a substantial quantity of arrows. With these arrangements in place, Allen felt a sense of relief.
Now, all that remained was to await the pirates' anticipated attack in two weeks. Allen was confident that he had a significant surprise in store for them.
As for the issue of the traitor, all would be revealed when the time came to confront the pirate invaders.
