The incessant knocking on the door indicated that Olivia was coming with anger.
Suzanne didn't know if Olivia found out something or something else happened, but the fact that she didn't call and came straight to her door made it seem likely that it was the former.
"Suzanne, hurry up and open the door!"
Hearing the sounds outside, which had gone from knocking to practically pounding on the door, Suzanne glanced at the man sitting stably beside the bed and said with a vexed look, "Can you hide for a bit?"
Mason King looked at her, "Is she a relative from your daughter's father's side?"
"No, she's my boss." Suzanne didn't bother explaining and quickly went to help the man stand up, "Just cooperate, I'm doing you such a big favor, you can't screw me over, right? If my boss finds out there's a man in my house, she'll tear me apart!"
"Does your boss need to manage your private life?" Mason King's expression wasn't too friendly due to the aggressive pounding on the door outside, and Suzanne didn't seem like the type of pitiful woman that could be bullied by her boss or company.
"Come on, just hide for now!" Suzanne yanked the man up, and with limited hiding space in the house, she simply dragged him into the bathroom. She then pulled open the frosted glass door used for separating wet and dry areas, let him in, closed the door quickly, and hurriedly opened the front door with the pounding still going on outside.
The moment she opened the door, before Suzanne could speak, Olivia coldly pushed her aside and barged in, throwing down her handbag and rolling up her sleeves, "It took you so long to open the door, let me see where you've hidden your gigolo!"
Suzanne: "..."
Seeing that Olivia was genuinely suspicious, if Suzanne tried to stop her, it would probably make her even more suspicious, so she simply stood by the door and watched her, "What did you just say? What are you looking for?"
Olivia took a quick look around each room before noticing Suzanne still standing by the door, then frowned and asked, "Didn't you just buy a bunch of stuff for a man? There's only you and Lily in your house, and no men, so why did you buy those things?"
Still standing at the door, Suzanne looked straight into Olivia's nearly X-ray-like gaze, "I asked Aunt Victoria to help me take care of Lily before, remember her son is coming to Philadelphia for school soon? He'll need a place to stay temporarily before finding a proper place, but Charlotte hesitates to bother me, so I bought and prepared her son's stuff in advance, so she can bring him here without having to stay elsewhere."
Luckily for Suzanne, it was true that the housekeeper, Aunt Victoria, did really have such a son.
Olivia glanced sideways, taking a look inside the master bedroom, seeing the newly bought items by the bed, ready to be hung with their tags still attached, not even worn for trying. Her face finally softened a bit.
As Suzanne approached to speak, Olivia suddenly walked into the master bedroom and asked expressionlessly, "Where is the white teddy bear on the bed?"
"I put it in Lily's room. She's been wanting to sleep with that bear lately."
Olivia gave her a sidelong glance, "I just saw two pillows on Lily's small bed, didn't you make her sleep alone a while ago?"
"She accidentally switched channels while watching TV a few days ago and ended up watching a horror movie; it scared her so much that she couldn't sleep at night. I've been sleeping with her for the past few days..."
Olivia laughed sarcastically, "Enough already, over these years you've been raising Lily on your own, and I've frequently visited to check on her. Do you think I don't know what your home usually looks like?"
