Early the next morning, Joshua Sulliven woke up to the sound of quiet sobs. Frowning, he glanced at Keira Leaf beside him, only to find her convulsing and sobbing, her face wet with tears soaking a large area on the pillow.


Joshua reached out to wipe the tears from her cheeks, but realized her face was frighteningly hot. Frowning, he touched her forehead and immediately lost any desire to sleep.


As he'd feared, she had come down with a fever.


Joshua got up, went to the bathroom, and brought back two damp towels to place on her forehead. He wondered how she would get through a fever while pregnant, unable to take medication.


Keira, who had been asleep, suddenly waved her hands frantically and began wailing hysterically.


Joshua's hands shook as he looked at her, lost in her grief.


She suddenly sat up, drenched in cold sweat, the towel on her forehead falling onto her lap.
