He held her in his arms, not speaking, nor in a rush to go inside, his breath carrying the scent of her shampoo.

James Black thought, perhaps in the future, he would become addicted to kissing Jane Sampson.

Because he was concerned about Jane's injured right hand, even though he had countless desires to meld her into his very being, he was afraid of hurting her and, after calming down, James Black eventually let her go.

"Just now, I was genuinely afraid you would suffocate yourself," James Black rubbed the top of Jane's hair.

Jane's face burned, she pushed James Black away, put on the other slipper and hurried inside first.

Only then did James Black leisurely bend down to change his slippers, placed the keys on the shoe cabinet in the entryway, and followed her, adding another comment, "You've made some progress."

Jane was so embarrassed by James Black's praise that she wished the ground would swallow her up.
