Chapter 1057 Happy Birthday

"You're not here, what difference does it make where I am?" James Black responded.

He had come home just to see her. If she didn't return, the place would be cold and empty, and waiting there for midnight would be meaningless.

How was that different from any other year?

James intended to continue smoking but then realized something, promptly extinguished the cigarette butt, and stood up to open the balcony door to ventilate.

The voice with which he answered her was cold and clear, even chillier than the night breeze that seeped in from outside.

After opening the balcony door, he stood at the doorway, leaning there, slightly tilting his head, his gaze resting on her.

Jane Sampson put the stuff in her hands down on the table, then slowly moved towards James. Seeing that he didn't move away, she reached out and embraced him.

"I'm sorry," she nestled her head against his chest, "I shouldn't have deliberately upset you when you called me."
