The man fell silent for a moment, his expression subtle, as if he was both irritated and disappointed.
Eventually, he compromised, perhaps hoping to act in a better situation; being hasty could rob some of the fun.
"Alright, what do you want to talk about?" he asked.
...Talk about what?
Jane McCain had no idea; she just wanted to stall for time.
"It's about something that happened a long time ago. I hope... after you know it, you won't be too shocked or too angry..." As Jane said this, she walked over to the coffee machine, using the act of making coffee to conceal her nervousness.
The man frowned and said, "Janie, I love you. No matter what you've done, I'll forgive you."
He thought that Jane wanted to reveal her past love life.
Jane turned around, brought the coffee to him, and sat opposite him, keeping a certain distance.
"I...I want to talk to you about some of my ex-boyfriends..."
