Chapter 988: Avoidance_1

"Jane McCain, like everyone else, I believe you are innocent," Allen Rivera began, "I arrested you only because it was my duty, nothing more."

"So emotionally you believe I'm not guilty, but logically you have to arrest me as a criminal?" Jane McCain looked at him and murmured, "You really are a conflicted person."

Allan Rivera made no comment.

And he couldn't help but ask himself, if he had never known Jane McCain, would he have prejudged her as the murderer after taking on this case?

Lost in thought, he felt a weight on his shoulder.

It was Jane McCain, gently patting his back.

"Don't be afraid," she said, with a touch of self-mockery, "It's too late to be scared now, prosecutor."

Allan Rivera managed a wry smile.

It should have been him consoling her, but the roles were reversed, a situation tinged with subtle irony.
