Chapter 13: The Strong Ones

Vero's arrival finally brought Komer the first spring since he had come to Caucasus.

The delicate and sweet voice of the girl seemed to echo in Komer's ears at every moment, and Komer didn't know if he had not once fallen into a love trap. Vero had come to escape an arranged meeting. Upon learning accidentally that a prince from neighboring Bohemia intended to visit Galle and was eager to meet her, even the inexperienced Vero understood what this implied.

Without making any preparations, she drifted away. She did not hate marriage, but she detested the shackles that tried to decide her lifetime happiness without her even having met the person.
