Three horse-drawn carriages glided lightly onto the dock along the spacious road. Except for the first carriage, which bore a lively bear head emblem on its door, the other two were plainly commercial carriages, unmistakable in their ordinariness. Such carriages could be rented at will in every city. In addition to accommodating a good number of passengers, the concave luggage rack at the top could hold lots of luggage. The extended carriage, if squeezed, could fit more than eight people, which was, of course, where servants and attendants rode.
