The meeting with Frenster came so swiftly that even Komer thought the other party seemed to be waiting for his invitation.

Komer didn't have the nerve to invite both Frenster and Vazinsky to Plovdiv at once. If the two pillars of the Church of Light really came together, Komer was genuinely worried they might wipe him out in an instant. Even with Rebry and Mihailovich as his escorts, he didn't feel entirely safe; erring on the side of caution was only beneficial.

This was Komer's first time facing the man reputed to be the foremost authority in the Church of Light, second only to the Pope. Obviously, in that period, the substantial weakening of Vazinsky's faction had affected his standing within the Church.
