Chapter 40 : Max's Truth

*Lila’s POV*

“Mercy!”

“Just tell me what I want to know already! Then you can have your mercy!” I shouted.

“Lila, we need him alive,” Leo coaxed.

I growled. “Rats like him know when to jump ship, Leo.”

I couldn’t say that this was a situation I had ever found myself in before. As a journalist, I prided myself on integrity. I might’ve pried into topics before, fished for more information and asked sensitive questions, but I always backed off when asked to, when I pushed too far.

If I decided there was going to be a limit, then there was a limit, just like with Rafe at the conference.

I never got violent, I never demanded answers, and I didn’t do illegal things like break into places, tie someone to a chair, and threaten them.

All those things were currently happening.

If there was ever a time for me to devolve to threats and violence though, it was now. And it might’ve helped that it was Max I was doing this to.
