The room was spinning at an intolerable rate, my head pounding with each rotation and each thrum of my heart. I groaned as I tried to move to my other side. Pain shot through my side, and I realized there was a large gash where a piece of broken glass had struck me.
The room was dark, and I could barely see the form of a single guard waiting in the doorway. He wasn’t watching me as his eyes drifted to the balcony doors, open and broken.
The events of the last few minutes came back to me in slow motion. I remembered the man, the spy, speaking to me one moment, and the next, he threw himself at me.
I tried to block him, but his full force slammed me into the mirror behind me. He then became enraged, transforming into a beast of unrecognizable size and strength. It tore through the room before finally bounding through the balcony doors, shattering them in the process.
