The Overwhelming Toxicity

BOOM!

Witnessing their station being sabotage by two masked punks, the Toxic sisters quickly rallied, unleashing swarms of burning neon hornets from Tess and billowing poison mists from Toxica that drove the invading duo back towards a wall. "You dare attack us here?!" Tess screeched furiously.

From above, Poison Dart took aim with a barrage of paralysis darts. "I'll put you both into permanent stasis!" she yelled.

"If you can catch us!" The Blur reacted swiftly, surrounding himself and Cobalt with a protective dome of woven electric dreads to deflect the incoming attacks. But they couldn't stalemate like this forever.

"Cobalt, we need to grab their remaining drug supply and get out!" he directed urgently. His ally had other ideas.

Still enraged, Cobalt smashed the lance through the flooring to access dirt below. His hands glowed as he channelled charged blue particles.

"Oh, I'm just getting started punks!" Dozens of ferocious ant hybrids began tearing up through the cracked concrete, answering Cobalt's power. They scurried forth hungrily towards the villains. "Who's hungry for Toxic freak flesh?!" Cobalt spurred on his savage insectoid minions eagerly.

However, The Blur knew they faced unknown dangers if the Toxic crew reached their sprawling stockpiles of formulated drugs. "Cobalt stop! Don't kill them, just halt the production." His words went unheeded amidst the madness and skittering mandibles.

Cobalt was too immersed in sadistic play directing his mutated creations to tear the facility and their enemies apart. Gradually, the tide turned against the chaos. The Toxic sisters' potent powers decimated the bug swarms faster than Cobalt could spawn reinforcements. They pressed forward again relentlessly.

"You're starting to annoy me," Tess spat, hurling condensed acid orbs that ate through any obstacles. Nearby, Toxica siphoned power from spilled Coco chemicals, augmenting her deadly smog attacks. Even Cobalt's reinforced alloy suit began corroding under the concentrated exposure. Their odds were worsening.

"Dart, seize the speedy one!" Toxica commanded. "We'll melt his insolent friend." Complying swiftly, Poison Dart fired a slew of pressurized tracking darts. The Blur blurred into evasive motion, but the darts were cunningly seeking his bio-signature.

Utilizing Vibration Smash in desperation, the Blur shattered two missiles inches from his face. But another paralytic dart soon found its mark, piercing his thigh. "Damn...it..." he gasped as numbness rapidly spread. His Hyper Rush was rendered useless now.

"Ha! Not so elusive anymore," Poison Dart taunted as The Blur collapsed helplessly. She blew toxic powder from her lips that further enfeebled her sedated prey. "I'll stash this one for harvesting later." Lashing the paralyzed speedster with cords, Poison Dart began dragging him away.

Nearby, Cobalt's situation fared no better as the sisters' combined might slowly overpowered his weakening defences. "You'll wish you never crossed us!" Toxica gloated as acid ate through his chest plating, exposing vulnerable flesh beneath. Their revenge would be agonizing.

With his ally downed and himself badly outmatched, Cobalt reluctantly signalled a tactical retreat to his swarm. "Damn, fall back! This ain't over, freak shows!" Forming crystalline Sapphire armour as cover, he awkwardly hauled the bound Blur along towards their secret tunnel entrance and barely managed to seal it behind them against Toxic projectiles whizzing past.

Safely escaping the disastrous ambush, Cobalt propped the paralysed Blur up and shook his shoulders. "Come on, snap out of it partner!" Shedding his own damaged battle suit gratefully, Cobalt inspected the thigh wound and grimaced. "Their freaky bio-chemical crap did a number on you for sure."

With effort, Cobalt hoisted his incapacitated ally over his shoulder. "Just hang in there, I'll get us somewhere secure." Managing a weak grin through the spreading paralysis, The Blur said, "Teamwork...makes the dream work..."

Cobalt barked out a relieved laugh hearing the blitzed speedster still cracking jokes. "Yeah, we crushed it alright. Rest up now, you deserve it."

Hauling his wounded ally carefully through the gloomy tunnels, Cobalt made it outside and stuck to the shadows. He had gotten them into this catastrophe, now it was on him to ensure they both survived the rest of this night. Activating his locator armour, Cobalt set off seeking safe refuge.

Carrying the paralyzed Blur across town proved a monumental challenge for Cobalt. Without his ally's impossible speed, travelling anywhere took ages and was treacherous when trying not to be seen. Eventually however, he managed to reach an abandoned home on the rural outskirts that Cobalt often used for off-grid relaxation.

Kicking the stuck door open, Cobalt carefully laid The Blur down on a dusty couch. His condition looked stable though the toxins still immobilized his voluntary muscles. Cobalt scavenged the derelict kitchen for any bottled water or crumbs to recover their strength. But rodents and mould had claimed most edibles long ago.

"Just try to rest easy, I'll figure this out," Cobalt offered, more to reassure himself. Peeling away the upper portion of the Blur's costume revealed veins still pronounced an ominous azure where the dart had struck. That insidious poison was likely still spreading too.

Cobalt desperately wracked his memory for some solution or treatment. But the hidden facility's stockpiles and labs were the only source for a cure, now lost. He couldn't believe his own reckless bravado had led them to such a grim predicament.

"I should go back there alone and force the Toxics to fix you up...or at least snatch more of their supplies," Cobalt strategized aloud.

The Blur slowly shook his head, even that small motion was a struggle requiring intense focus. "Too...dangerous..." he spoke hoarsely. "Need...plan first..."

Cobalt frowned, hating feeling so useless and unable to swiftly rescue his afflicted partner. The Blur was right, charging back in unfocused would only make the situation graver.

Slumping against the mildewed wall, Cobalt sifted options and gained renewed insight into their challenges. His own recklessness had caused this catastrophe. They required a well-strategized next move to stand any chance of succeeding and surviving.

On the couch, the paralyzed Blur fought back waves of throbbing pain as the foreign toxins unleashed by Poison Dart's darts continued corrupting his nervous system. The subtle azure glow of his veins had intensified markedly just in the short time since extraction from the Toxics' lair.

"Hang in there...this venom trying to...overwhelm my Coco cells," The Blur explained through clenched teeth. "Need to focus...and not let it spread...to vitals..."

Shortly, even speaking became too strenuous between the paralytic poisons wreaking havoc inside him. Cobalt could only watch helplessly as his partner now writhed and spasmed involuntarily. The damage was accelerating by the minute.

"Just try to conserve energy, I'll figure this out!" Cobalt vowed urgently. With no treatment options here, their sole hope was finding some medicinal herb or purification ritual known by local shamans that could cleanse Coco systems.

Cobalt hastily rigged an IV drip of hydrating coconut water to sustain his fading comrade. "Hang tight Blur, I'm going to track down something to fix this!" Whether or not his partner heard the promise, Cobalt took off swiftly towards the outskirts. He had to locate help immediately.
