Capricious Brutality

In addition to the wound medicine, Dr. Wang also prescribed an oral remedy.

After seeing Doctor Wang off, Murong Yu returned to the stable and found that Ji Chengxuan had once again fallen unconscious.

"What happened to him?" Murong Yu couldn't help but ask.

"Lady Yu, don't worry. This nomad slave has just fallen into a deep sleep," said the guard left behind to watch over the scene.

Murong Yu breathed a sigh of relief as she noticed Ji Chengxuan's steady breathing. Nonetheless, she crouched down to touch his forehead, checking for a fever.

Aman was astonished. She thought, 'It seems her ladyship is particularly concerned about this nomad slave.'

"Where does he usually live? Once he's recovered a bit, let him return to his usual quarters. This is no place for someone to live," said Murong Yu as she rose to her feet.

The guard was well-informed and reported, "Lady Yu, this is actually where he usually stays."

Murong Yu was taken aback and asked, "How is that possible? Don't we have spare rooms in the residence?"

"He's a nomad slave; he's not even considered a servant here in the residence. There's no place for him in the spare rooms." the guard explained.

Murong Yu looked at the unconscious Ji Chengxuan and thought, 'He had never brought this up with me later on, probably because he despised me and my family so much that he had been unwilling to help us. In the end, it was only my tearful pleas that had reluctantly moved him to act.'

Holding back her emotions, Murong Yu ordered, "Aman, arrange a spare room for him. Once he's better, move him there. Make sure no one bullies him!"

"Yes, my lady," Aman quickly replied.

"Don't worry, Lady Yu. This nomad slave is very fierce; no one dares to provoke him." the guard assured Murong Yu.

Murong Yu glared at the guard and commanded, "For now, I am entrusting him to your care. Take good care of him, or you won't have a place here anymore."

"Yes, Lady Yu!" The guard was quick to comply.

"Why are you being so good to this nomad slave, my lady?" Aman couldn't help but ask as they walked back to Murong Yu's courtyard.

"I just made a vow to the Bodhisattva to pray for my grandmother's health, and then this happened. How could I ignore it? Do you know how much my grandmother loved me when I was little?" Murong Yu spoke, lips tightly pressed.

Aman dared not say anything more.

Once they returned to the courtyard, Murong Yu sent Aman off with money to buy medicine.

Murong Yu then knelt before the altar and offered incense, apologizing to the Bodhisattva, "I have broken my vow. I will be a vegetarian for half a year as an atonement. I pray that you protect my grandmother and help Ji Chengxuan get through this difficult time."

Soon, Aman returned, reporting that everything had been taken care of.

"Did you instruct the guards to take good care of him?" Murong Yu, busy writing prescriptions, asked without looking up.

"I did." Aman confirmed, glancing at the prescription in surprise. "My lady, when did you learn how to write prescriptions?"

'10 grams of Ginseng, 20 grams of Lingzhi, 25 grams of Rehmannia, 25 grams of Licorice... This is clearly a prescription.' Aman thought.

Murong Yu remained silent.

The prescription was specifically for Ji Chengxuan, aimed at treating his long standing chronic condition.

In Murong Yu's previous life, Ji Chengxuan had deeply resented her and her family largely because of an existing grave injury within him. Before having time to recover, he had been sent off to the hunting grounds where he was injured again by an arrow.

Though Ji Chengxuan had survived, the combination of new wounds and old ones was not easy to recover from. On the surface, he seemed to have healed, but internally, irreversible after-effects remained.

Whenever it was rainy and damp, Ji Chengxuan's old wounds would flare up again, causing him severe pain that made him extraordinarily irritable. Everyone in his residence lived in fear, knowing that the slightest mistake could cost them their lives.

Outside, there were rumors that Ji Chengxuan was capriciously brutal, a killer without remorse.

The prescription Murong Yu wrote had been given to her by a renowned doctor, who lamented that if this prescription had been used from the beginning, Ji Chengxuan's chronic injuries could have been cured. But by then, it was too late; at most, it could alleviate his symptoms.

"Instruct the kitchen to prepare vegetarian meals for me for the next six months. No meat," Murong Yu said, having completed the prescription.
