Way back in the past during the 21st century and when Vann hasn't been born yet, there was a widespread incident that happened across multiple countries from all over the world.
It was an incident describing people feeling symptoms of being sluggish and weak. At first nobody paid attention to it since it could just be them being in a tired state. However, the world can never be more wrong.
In just a few weeks, the number of people who experienced such symptoms exploded to hundreds of thousands. It was only then that the whole world started to take note of this accident.
As the people became more and more anxious and the numbers continued to grow without any clue as to what is causing this problem, the experts soon learned an important clue to what caused this to all of those people. All of them without a doubt, has started feeling this symptoms after playing VR games for a few days or weeks.
That's right. At that time, the VR game industry is just starting to thrive after it's discovery.
But because of this massive problem that popped out of nowhere, the VR game industry took a giant hit, severely lowering its popularity and even causing outrage to the masses.
Just when it seemed that the VR game industry was about to be condemned by the whole world, a middle aged man named Max Grey explained the cause of the problem during a major conference that occured between the various VR game companies and the government of many countries.
His reputation of being one of the few people involved in inventing the VR technology and also the CEO of Maxima, the company that spearheaded the VR game industry at that time helped in giving some weight to his words.
He explained that the cause of this is because of the way most VR games are operated. Due to the ability of VR games to make a realistic virtual world, most VR games tend to have a genre about fighting and because the concept of fighting is dangerous and unlikely to happen to the average person, many people loved playing VR games since they can experience the thrill of fighting in a safe environment.
Now imagine this. What will happen if an average human with no experience in fighting, suddenly experiences one in an almost realistic setting with the help of VR? Of course they're brain will use more energy to adapt to these stressful situation which is no problem at all since it can easily be restored by resting. And as one of the species known for its ability to adapt, the human brain will be stronger after resting, the same principle as how the body gets stronger when exercising.
And this is where the problem lies. With the brain getting stronger, the physical body stays the same with no improvement whatsoever because what they use during the fight is a virtual body made of data and not their actual real body.
In short, the body is unable to handle the growth of the brain, hence leading to a feeling of being weak and sluggish. To be exact, the root cause of the problem is the disconnection between the real body and the brain during a dive in the virtual world
And because of this, he surmised that there will be more problems later on if a VR game forces the player to go beyond what a normal human can do.
The people immediately when into an uproar as almost of them felt shocked at that information. But before any of the people in the conference can even react, what Max said afterwards totally put almost the entire world into a stunned silence.
"But this is also an opportunity. An opportunity for human evolution!"
Needless to say, Max was almost labeled as an insane and crazy person for even entertaining such an idea. But despite this, some minority of people can't help but think seriously about his statement.
However the people have severely underestimated his ambitions at that time.
To prove his own words and to also serve as the compensation to all the players around the world, Max gave all of them a special liquid that will help the body to adapt quickly to the brain's growth rate.
He called it at that time as elixir. It was a liquid that was invented with the help of highly skilled scientists and doctors.
Furthermore, he assured the people that they don't need to drink it if they don't trust him as the brain and body will naturally adapt to changes and become stronger over time to return to it's balanced state. The only purpose of the elixir is to quicken this process.
Due to his assurance, the VR players felt relieved that they didn't need to drink something suspicious, especially a drink that was given by the so called "'madman" at that time.
But of course, there are some exceptions to this which are the curious or fearless types as they boldly drinked the elixir that Max gave to them.
In just less than a week, the whole world was shocked again as when those people who drank the elixir were tested, not only did they return to their normal state but also had their bodies become a little bit stronger. The change is very little, about 1 to 10% stronger. But for this to happen just by playing games for a few days is more than enough to completely leave the world feeling shock and wonder.
The news immediately made many people shudder as they thought back to Max's statement and the whole world changed overnight due to the undeniable proof that was laid before it's very eyes.
From then on, the VR game industry experienced an explosive rise. Many companied started heavily investing in the the industry and even the government of many countries was not an exception.
The prospect of human evolution tempted many ambitious people and have gained the curiosity of the rest which explained this situation. Furthermore at that time Max was also blatantly supporting the industry due to his ambitions.
Even if in the end evolution isn't possible, one thing remains as an undeniable truth. The many possibilities that VR can offer is more than enough reason as to why it gained such attention.
During that time, various industries were also affected, particularly the gyms and dojo that teaches martial arts. With VR games being heavily focused on fighting and their realistic setting, martial arts have risen to light once again.
However, to ensure the safety of the players, the companies and the government have made a rule for every VR games. The VR gamr should always reflect reality. This is to avoid too much dissonance between the brain, body, and the real world to avoid any problem when the player returns to reality.
If a VR game was found to have disobeyed this rule, the company behind it will be heavily punished by the government.
Ever since then, all VR game have followed this rule down to a t with no exceptions.
That is... until BFS appeared.
Not only did attributes in the game actually improves the virtual body of the player, they had gone so far as to create the concept of mana which, as far as Vann knows, never existed in reality.
Such huge difference between the virtual and real world can easily create a huge problem if not handled well.
Which is why Vann is so confused and curious about the hidden intentions of Maxima and it's current CEO, Howard Grey, the son and successor of Max Grey and also a known advicate to this human evolution that his father started.
