Chapter 20

"Sorry I arrived unannounced," Mrs. Dumas apologized. She is a young-looking woman in her early forties, with brown curly hair with warm green eyes. She smiled at Ezra in relief as he escorted her into the apartment.

She was surprised to see Milky sitting in the living room. The atmosphere in the room wasn't wrong, but she still felt like she arrived at the wrong time.

"Were you about to do something?" she asked in a soft tone.

"Yes," Arthur said indifferently while crossing his arms.

Mrs. Dumas looked down timidly. "I wish to speak to you and Ezra for a moment," she said submissively.

Ezra held her shoulder gently and looked at Milky. "I'll go outside for a minute," she said, standing up. It must be a private matter, she should not be here for this then.

Before Milky steps outside, she takes a glance at Mrs. Dumas, she is gorgeous for a woman her age. She is quite timid, but there's this slight layer of elegance around her especially with the designer clothes that she's wearing, and the expensive jewelry around her neck.

Of course, Milky knows who she is, Mrs. Dumas, or Rose Rivera, a famous actress back in the day before she got married.

Maybe before she leaves she will get an autograph for her parents.

Once Milky leaves Mrs. Dumas sat down. She doesn't wait any longer. "Tony and I are going to be getting divorced in a few months," she said.

Tony is Mr. Dumas' first name.

Ezra wasn't surprised by this. He's been expecting it for years. But why now?

Arthur listened carefully, this was an interesting fact for him. Mrs. Dumas, his mother is from a middle-class family, and her wanting to divorce could ruin her.

"Why now?" Ezra asked. He feels like he's being rude, but he needs to know. Why now? She could have done this years ago, she had the right.

Mrs. Dumas understood what Ezra was asking. "My marriage with Tony was never a real marriage, it never was, it has never been," she said, proceeding to explain. "It was a contractual marriage," she said.

Ezra's heart shook. He never expected it to turn out this way. He had so many questions. In his memories before his differentiation, they were always the perfect couple in his eyes.

Mrs. Dumas took a deep breath before she continued. "When I was twenty-three years old, close to the peak of my acting career, my mother was diagnosed with leukemia and I didn't have enough money for her treatment."

'Where is this going?' Arthur thought.

"I met Tony once at a party and immediately discovered my identity as an omega, I don't know how, but somehow he figured it out," she said. "He did a background check and came over to meet me with the contract which was for me to marry him and bear him an Alpha child, then when the child turns seventeen or eighteen we divorce, however, if the child was any other gender, I would take the child away six months after the  day they present."

"I refused, of course, it is a very selfish contract and it would have been unfair for me and the child. I left his office angry that day, I thought he would leave me be, but he proceeded to nearly destroy my reputation.

I couldn't get any acting jobs, and I had to work as a cashier to support my family. My mother's treatment would be ceased very soon because the money wasn't enough.

I soon had no other choice but to crawl back to him and ask to sign the contract. I knew I would never love a man who only wanted me to bear his child."

Mrs. Dumas looked up at Ezra and Arthur. "It doesn't matter if I gave birth to Arthur or I raised Ezra," she said in a soft motherly tone. "You are both my children. I am sorry Ezra that you had to go through because of me," she said looking at Ezra, before turning to Arthur. "And Arthur, I know you'll treat Ezra kindly, I also wish you two happiness. Also, watch your back, Tony isn't happy with how close you two are, and he might try to do something to separate the both of you."

Once she was done she took a deep breath, then looked at the both of them and smiled sweetly.

Ezra was close to tears. Mrs. Dumas went through a lot. "Is your mum still alive?" Arthur asked.

"Yes," Mrs. Dumas replies smiling a bit.

'So her effort wasn't a waste,' Arthur thought. He is very indifferent towards the woman who birthed him because they were alone in the same room and the only other time he's met her was when she picked Ezra from school, but they never really spoke.

"Do you plan on leaving after our birthday?" Ezra asked.

Mrs. Dumas smiled, her eyes showed mental exhaustion. "Yes, as long as Tony doesn't have any use for me any longer, the divorce procedure should go smoothly."

"But Mr. Dumas already marked you, wouldn't it be difficult for you if you leave him?" Ezra said out of concern.

Mrs. Dumas smirked a bit. "I could do surgery to remove the mark," she said.

"But that would mean--" Ezra said in worry.

"Me becoming a Beta," she said, nodding. "I don't care about that as long I am permanently free from that man," she said, her eyes burned with hatred.
