THE VICTIM’S AGONY

After months of grappling with an internal struggle, Kitara was trembling at the possible explanation for her illness. This was just one of the countless days where Kitara found herself succumbing to bouts of vomiting. The mere sight of food was enough to upset her stomach. Lady Ignacia, deeply concerned for her daughter’s wellbeing, appeared at the entrance of the pavilion with an apothecary from the outskirts. The elderly woman held Kitara’s wrist, studying her with a puzzled look.
“The young lady isn’t ill, milady,” the old woman declared.
“She’s not ill? Then explain why Kitara is in such a terrible state these days!” Lady Ignacia’s patience was wearing thin with the apothecary’s diagnosis.
“I-I m-mean, milady, it’s normal. The young lady is with child. Her morning sickness will pass—” the old woman was cut off by Kitara’s explosive reaction.
