Chapter 38: Soul Testing

Qin Feng addressed the woman politely.

"Do you mean testing soul power?Or is it awakening of soul power? Are you from one of those prominent families?"

The woman, intrigued, gazed at Qin Feng intently.

Typically, only children from nobel families have the privilege to undergo soul awakening at Wuhundian.

"No, I already acquired my first soul ring. I'm here this time to undergo the soul master test."

Despite feeling embarrassed, Qin Feng maintained a charming and innocent demeanor towards the woman.

His words carried a sense of righteousness, justice, and determination.

To expedite his progress, Qin Feng made a decision, albeit reluctantly.

Never did he anticipate being perceived as adorable; it startled him.

"Oh, you've obtained your first soul ring? But you seem barely six or seven years old." The woman's delicate hand reached out, urging Qin Feng to reveal his Wuhun.

The woman's attire exuded a subtle allure. She knelt down, feigning surprise, and gently brushed away Qin Feng's hand. He dared not meet her gaze; even looking up made him feel faintly lightheaded. He was no mere child; his mind was that of an adult!

"Ahem, I find it hard to believe this child possesses a soul ring. Let me assess him," the man beside the woman interjected, displaying a hint of displeasure.

"What's the matter?"

A voice suddenly echoed from upstairs, followed by the descent of a well-groomed elderly gentleman with snowy white hair.

The emblem of three crossed swords adorning his attire identified him as a Grand Soul Master of the War Soul Master level.

"Master Mathew," both the man and the woman addressed the old man with utmost reverence.

"It's Su yuntao and Sisi after all. Why are you two causing a ruckus here? I believe the rules of Wuhun Palace are quite clear to both of you," Master Matthew stated with a hint of exasperation.

The person beside him was Su Yuntao.

Upon hearing Master Matthew's words, Qin Feng glanced at the man beside him.

"Master Matthew Noir, there's a young child here who wishes to undergo soul power evaluation, but he seems rather young," Su Yuntao explained to Master Matthew, the Soul Master.

Ordinary children from regular families are typically only six or seven years old; they may have just awakened their Wuhun. How could they be here for evaluation? Su Yuntao suspected that someone had intentionally allowed the child entry for some reason.

"Soul power evaluation? Are you certain you heard correctly?" Master Matthew, the Noble Soul Master, glanced at the Notting College uniform. Was the teacher mistaken? Shouldn't it be Wuhun awakening?

But if the child had no soul power, how could he wear the Notting Junior Soul Master Academy uniform? Could it be that Notting City had produced a genius? The more Master Matthew pondered, the more perplexed he became.

"Hello, Grandpa Matthew, I'm Qin Feng. My teacher instructed me to undergo Soul Master qualification evaluation," Qin Feng greeted respectfully.

Qin Feng presented himself to the old man with the demeanor of a young gentleman. Despite his adorable and charming appearance, he still retained an air of sophistication. However, while Qin Feng was momentarily distracted, the female companion beside Su Yuntao took advantage and embraced him like a cherished doll.

"Such a well-mannered and educated child is truly delightful," she remarked, referring to Qin Feng's polite demeanor.

Indeed, Qin Feng, with his cute and gentlemanly demeanor, could easily win over the hearts of his teachers.

Cough! Master Matthew pretended to clear his throat twice and cast a pointed look at Sisi. Sisi, realizing her impropriety, blushed and promptly released Qin Feng.

"Since you're here for the Soul Master evaluation, follow me upstairs," Master Matthew instructed Qin Feng.

"Let's go, Sisi. We'll see if Notting City has produced a young genius," Su Yuntao said with a smile, taking Sisi's hand as they ascended the stairs together.

Observing Su Yuntao, the woman couldn't help but feel a twinge of surprise. Her intuition hinted that there might be a tinge of jealousy emanating from Su Yuntao.

Master Matthew's office, located on the second floor, exuded a quaint atmosphere upon entering. However, the evaluation wasn't to take place in his office. Instead, they proceeded along a path adjacent to the office, eventually reaching the Wuhun Palace for the Wuhun laboratory test.

In the laboratory, black stones littered the surroundings. If Qin Feng remembered correctly, these stones were used for soul awakening.

"Our soul power evaluation begins here. Allow me to introduce myself first. I am Matthew Novo, the head of the Wuhun Palace branch. I am a Grand Soul Master, and I will be overseeing your soul evaluation today. In our empire, the Wuhun Temple..."

"Grandfather Matthew, may I proceed?" Qin Feng interjected, feeling a bit flustered after listening to Grandfather Matthew's lengthy speech. He had the impression that Grandfather Matthew could talk for hours, so he hastened to interrupt.

After all, he was here for a soul power evaluation, and the process seemed unnecessarily elaborate. Qin Feng understood the structure of Wuhun Palace and the empire better than Grandfather Matthew, as he was well-versed in various disciplines.

"Ah, are young people so impatient these days? When cultivating soul power, it's best not to rush. Otherwise, you might end up like me, unable to surpass the 30th level in your lifetime," Grandfather Matthew sighed, slowly preparing the testing apparatus.

"Master Matthew, perhaps you should proceed with the test swiftly. A child of six years should not bear such weight," Sisi remarked, eyeing Grandfather Matthew with a mixture of bemusement and exasperation.

Master Matthew was known for his kindness and wisdom, yet his propensity for verbosity was his only flaw.

"Alright, young ones, it seems I can't keep pace with the thoughts of youth like yourself. You have much to worry about," he said with a sigh, then turned his gaze towards Qin Feng.

"Boy, now reveal your martial spirit and soul ring," he instructed Qin Feng.

Qin Feng nodded slightly, focusing his concentration. Gradually, a faint aura of soul power enveloped his body, culminating in the emergence of a black nail in the palm of his hand.

"Poof!" Su Yuntao couldn't contain a smirk. Wasn't this hammer akin to those used by ordinary craftsmen? How could such a Wuhun possess a soul ring at the age of six or seven?

Typically, children of noble lineage obtained their soul rings at such a young age, aided by family resources in subduing soul beasts. However, in Notting City, there was no such martial heritage; only basic martial arts prevailed.

Su Yuntao couldn't fathom the possibility of a village child of six or seven possessing a soul ring. It seemed improbable.

Though not harboring ill will towards the child, Su Yuntao couldn't help but feel a pang of doubt. If the child truly possessed a soul ring, it likely formed over the span of ten years. Such civilian children, regarded as inferior soul masters, received a meager monthly stipend from the Wuhun Temple, barely enough to sustain themselves.

Su Yuntao shot a glance filled with frustration.

Su Yuntao's assessment stems from various factors. Despite the mace being an offensive weapon martial soul, it doesn't guarantee immediate success or a prominent future in the Soul Division, especially considering the young age of the opponent. Additionally, Qin Feng's current level of ten or above suggests he's advanced beyond mere soul awakening, which should be taken seriously. Thus, Su Yuntao finds the situation perplexing rather than amusing.

"Wuhun as a hammer is quite commendable," nodded Matthew.

"Child, besides releasing your Wuhun, you must also release your soul ring for the evaluation to proceed properly," Master Matthew gently reminded Qin Feng when he noticed the delay in releasing the soul ring.

"Grandpa Matthew, Sister Sisi, and Uncle Su Yuntao, could you step back for a moment?" Qin Feng requested, looking at the three with wide eyes.

"Why should we step back? Is Xiaofeng feeling a bit shy?" Matthew asked kindly. It's not unusual for some children to be reserved, especially in the presence of strangers, leading to difficulty in releasing their soul rings.

"No, I'm afraid of hurting someone," Qin Feng explained, his small head shaking slightly as he looked at Matthew Nuo and the others.

"It's alright, you can release it. The presence of a Grand Soul Master won't pose any danger," Matthew reassured with a smile.

Turning his attention to Sisi and Su Yuntao, Qin Feng hesitated.

"Xiaofeng, listen to Master Matthew. Don't worry about us; just do what you need to do," Sisi urged softly, surprised by the child's concern for others.

"Hmph, this child might be here to amuse us, but rather, he's afraid of causing harm. Who would be harmed by your soul ring anyway?" Su Yuntao scoffed, casting a disdainful glance at Qin Feng.
