Chapter 29

Myrah's POV

"Nick," I'm shaking like a leaf. Suppose they despise me. What if they make negative remarks about me? What if I humiliate both the Alexanders and my family? I fussed as I finished applying my makeup.

"Oh my God! Myrah, will you remain calm? You're going to do fantastic. They'll adore you, I promise. You are a remarkable person. Who could possibly say something negative about you? You are Mrs. Alexander, and you are the loveliest person I know. Your husband is in charge. Everyone respects him because he commands it naturally. They'll regard you as well," Nick reassured me.

I needed assistance since my anxiety was getting the better of me. Nick was the first person who sprang to mind, so I called him right away and was fortunate that he picked up.

In the distance, I overheard a baby crying, which got my attention.

God, oh God! Are you at work, Nick? If I'm bothering you, I'm really sorry. Later, when you are free, I'll give you a call.

"I recently completed the night shift. For the next few minutes, I'm available. Right now, I'm holding a friend's baby. Nick was talking to the baby when I overheard him say, "She's so little and gorgeous. My heart swelled at it.

He made such a tender, caring sound. He'd make a fantastic father. The baby started laughing right away. I desired a child as well. I also wished to share in the joy of parenthood.

"What's her name?"

Emma Rose. She is so lovely.

"Wow" beautiful name!

"Yes, I do. You ought to visit us occasionally. These days, I work with infants and young children. It will suit you. I won't occupy much of your time, though. I wanted you to be on time for your first day. You're going to be fantastic. Best wishes, Myrah.

"Many thanks, Nick. I'll call you later today to let you know how it went.

Sure, Myrah.

"Bye."

I ended the conversation, got off the plush stool in front of my dressing table, and made any necessary adjustments to the black pencil dress that lovingly embraced my smooth curves.

I put on a red blazer with a ruffled hem when it reached just above the knees. I put on a pair of open-toed, black heels with gold ankle straps that matched my necklace, earrings, and hairpin.

My mother's business sold fashionable handbags, and the one I was carrying suited my appearance. I worked so hard on my makeup and hoped it looked well. I said a quick prayer before picking up my file from the beautifully made bed and heading downstairs.

At the main dining table, Julius and Valentino were already seated, with Julius reading a newspaper and drinking coffee and Valentino tapping away on his cellphone.

Although I attempted to enter quietly, my heels appeared to have other ideas. Both males turned to face me when they heard the clicking sound.

"Myrah. Happy morning. Wow, you look absolutely stunning. In red, you look stunning. Julius exclaimed, "You should wear it more frequently. He put his newspaper and coffee away, then get up and fetched a chair for me next to Valentino. Such a gentleman he was.

I replied gently, my cheeks reddening, "Thank you."

Valentino continued to ogle me as if he had just discovered me. He made me feel awkward and self-conscious.

I responded to Julius while he continued speaking to me. He was pleasant and worried about me. On the other hand, his son merely casually glared at me as if he intended to eat me. I started to believe that he enjoyed making me angry.

Regina and Martha, who were as happy and loving as ever, gave us espresso waffles and mocha drizzle. They were treating me much too well. It had been a while since I had such a wonderful breakfast prepared with such affection, especially when I shared it with my family.

We continued and waited by the door as Julius walked upstairs to retrieve his files after we were finished.

I'm back with Mr. Arrogant. Why was he staring at me, anyway?

Have I developed two heads overnight or what? Angry, I questioned

Why are you dressed in red?

What does that mean, exactly? It's something I want to wear! Is it bad?

He casually said, putting his hands in his pockets, "It's not bad." Valentino wore a black shirt with a black checked, narrow-fit single-breasted formal suit.

Okay, let me just say that I was married to one of the hottest men alive. He exuded strength, danger, dominance, and intense sexiness in every way.

Quit daydreaming about Paris. No matter how hot he is, he will never be yours. I berated myself in my head for thinking such things.

How embarrassing is it, exactly? I didn't know what to wear, so I reasoned that this might be somewhat appropriate. I can change into another outfit.

Just the fact that he touched my cheek with his palm rendered me speechless. Exactly when did he move?

You look lovely, Myrah.

So why are you looking at me so intently? I questioned him as I gazed into his alluring eyes. He approached me and lowered his face to my ear.

My mind experienced a memory jolt. I still recall him kissing me there and giving me strange feelings.

Red denotes danger. It's risky, Princess. He leaned against my ear, and I felt his lips touch the area adjacent to my earring. "You might never know what will happen if you wear it," he said.

He moved away from me and put his hands back in his pockets, like nothing had occurred. What a wonderful husband God has given me!

Julius joined us, carrying a yellow file and flashing his recognizable smile.

I located it. Do you have any other plans, or are we using the same car? Julius enquired.

"Father, you may proceed. We'll speak with you soon. Caylee has a town shoot, so I have to pick her up and leave her there. She requested that I take her up because she is having car trouble. He said while holding my hand, "Myrah will go with me.

By God, not me! I instantly released my hold on his hand and took Julius's hand in its place. I noticed disappointment when I glanced into his eyes. He appeared injured.

"Julius," I'll go with you. I said, "Let's go," and he nodded and took the lead.

Valentino took my hand and drew me close to himself.

"Join me, please. I swear I won't do anything to put you in a bad mood."

"I have no faith in you at all when it comes to Caylee. Have fun with your girlfriend, I firmly replied before releasing my hold and walking away from him.

I felt triumphant and accomplished for the first time in a while. I was able to defend my own interests. When he treated me badly or did things with Caylee in my sight, I could also see the same hurt in his eyes that I felt.

He made an effort to hide it, but I could tell. His eyes revealed so much about him. They resembled his soul's road map. I was eager to unravel his enigma but was too terrified to approach him. I was worried about being wounded.

I hopped into a Fortune with Julius, and the driver took us to Alexander Jewels and Diamonds. I had only seen the massive structure with my father when I was a carefree twenty-year-old, though.

Now that I was an adult, I was prepared to start working for myself. The structure was a skyscraper—a modern skyscraper.

Four men in black suits arrived as we got out of the car and took us inside. The level of security was high. Before we reached the elevator, I had to show my employee ID card at least three times.

I also noticed that when we entered, every employee on the ground floor stood up in a formal manner. He must have been a well-liked boss. From my point of view, they weren't acting obligately; rather, they were acting voluntarily.

We rode a private elevator to the 60th level, where Kyle and his staff awaited us with a substantial bouquet of flowers and friendly greetings in their eyes and grins.

I felt incredibly unique. Julius left me in the care of my department's HOD, the Finance Department, when he left. Kyle made me feel protected, and everyone there was incredibly friendly.

Felix Edwards, our HOD, who looked to be in his early fifties, gave me a tour of the division and briefed me on my duties. He had a pl

easant appearance, but when in business mode, he seemed to be a straightforward individual.
