Chapter 33: Truth Hurts

I shoved the last box inside, closed the trunk of the rental car, and drove away as quickly as possible. I pulled over at the bottom of the long driveway to let myself finally cry and scream, then cry some more.

“What a coward!” I shouted angrily. “Couldn’t even face me like a real man.” It was both infuriating and hurtful.

“What an *ss,” I grumbled, wiping my tears only to have them come right back, upon remembering the animosity in Bev’s words. She hated me and she deserved to. And in truth, so did Luke. The pain in my chest upon acknowledging this fact was almost unbearable. It was going to be one hell of a weekend.

“What am I doing here?” I asked myself. Bev, as the welcoming committee, had made it abundantly clear that I was NOT welcome.

“F*ck them!” I exclaimed angrily. “They may not want me here, but my dad does.”
