I pick my trainees

After a few days of staying there I had done a handful of paper work, along with some range training with the rifles they had there. The only thing I haven't done yet is training anyone on the range yet, sure I'm not fully accustomed to the base yet, but I also don't know if they fully trust me to train anyone yet, but I feel like I could train people, since General White trusts me himself.

After I leave my room I see some lieutenants walk by, talking about the shipment being late this time around. The shipments are usually on time, but something must have happened along the way to make it late this time. However distractions aside, I must ask General White if I can pick the ones I wish to train to be snipers, or leave it up to him to choose.

When I get down to the strategy meeting room, I see not only General White, but also the lieutenant who showed me to my quarters. The man leading the conversation right now looks a bit displeased with how things are going, "I feel it's only a matter of time at this point until The People's republic of Labronsk, decide to make a move, it could be as short as next month, or even the month after, only time can tell." Sure being in the room hearing all this isn't probably a good thing to be hearing, however I take it as also my training time for those who I choose or, they choose for me.

After the conversation between all of them is finish, with me half asleep with my head starting to tilt downward, General White approaches me "Daniel straighten up your on base now, no slacking while your here understand!?" Quickly putting myself straight, and respecting him with a salute, "yes General White I understand sir!" After that he salutes me back, then proceeds to walk off.

However I quickly remembered what I was going to ask, with one swift motion I turn to him, "General I have something to ask of you, if I may, I would like to make my own decisions, on who should join the sniper training." When he hears this he doesn't say anything for a moment, but then he he looks behind me, "I don't believe you should ask me for that permission but should be asking him instead."

After I turn around again to face who General White is talking about, I see that it is then who was leading most of the conversation, "well if it isn't Daniel, so General this is the kid you picked up instead of William?" Being called kid doesn't sit right so I did something absolutely stupid, "for your information sir I am now seventeen, also I don't think that you would like it if I called you old man, correct?"

The atmosphere is quite after I get done saying what I said, I feel I messed up big time, seeing as how even General White was being silent behind me. Knowing full well that punishment could be anything however, when I see a small grin appear on his face I became confused, "I like this kids bravado, even if he did call me old man, alright then so what's this request of yours you wish to get approved on?"

Once I get done being confused I tell him straight, that I wish to bring in those who can complete a course that I make. When he's finished hearing it his smile turns to a straight face, "you realize that would basically give you the same power as any lieutenant on this base, yet you arrived here just some time ago, and now your asking for that level of authority?"

Being well aware of this I decide to say something, "then how about this you can choose from however many people here the top five hundred, from there I'll give them a test to see what the outcome is, if this is OK with you?" After I get done with saying it he is still frowning, I kind of figured that it would be this way, "well I know one thing is that if this fails, your taking the blame, also I don't know if you will fail or will, seeing as your grandfather gives you his trust."

The last part he says makes me think, then I feel the badge that my grandfather gave me on my uniform shirt. "This is something that my grandfather gave me, I don't know fully what it means, but I promise to not fail you," with that said he turns to walk away, " what you have there from your grandfather, William is the symbol of trust, along withany other things, keep it with you always."

After he's out of sight, I let out a small sigh of relief, "if I recall, the last time a person call Battle Stategist Hawk old, they were sent home, with all there bones broken." When I heard that I gulped a little knowing fully I could have ended up like that last person posibble, luckily I didn't. Once I turn towards General White I feel a little happy, but I know I can't get to excited just yet, the true test will soon begin.

The next few days after that I did get called by anyone to do anything, except for some casual military training, but on day four I had someone knocking on my door. After they let themselve in they saluted me, "sir Daniel, you are being called down to the training ground at four hundred in the morning, Battle Stategist Hawk is waiting for you there." Once he is finished I instantly get up, throwing my uniform on quickly, and dashing down to the training ground as fast as I can.

Once there, I see Hawk, along with what is roughly to my estamet around five hundred, or more soldiers ready to join up and join in on the sniper lessons. "Hello Daniel nice of you to join us, so tell me how many do you think will make it all the way to the final stage of your training?" While I feel like all of them have a shot, I also think none of them will fully make it, since they all look like they are about to fall back to sleep. "Honesty Stategist Hawk, I would say none of them have what it takes to make it all the way, but I wish to be proven wrong."

When they hear this they all straighten up again, "haha good one, you all hear that, Daniel here thinks you bunch won't make it through his training to become a sniper, so if you prove him wrong, you might just earn his respect, after all his grandfather was the first snow ghost, so all of you who pass his test, will be learning from the grandson of the best sniper in our kingdom!"

The feeling of strategist Hawk just throwing that part out there was a bit unnecessary, however it started to make some of them all talk amongst themselves, but now it's my turn.

"Alright everyone listen here, weather you pass or fail you won't be kicked from the military, you'll just never join the sniper training that I will be conducting, that being said your test will compromise of three different things, one endurance, two search and recon, three shooting distance, if you can't pass one of these your off the selection, do I make myself clear!"

The grounds are silent, I felt like a true instructor for the first time, but at the same time I know I'm only a sub for my grandfather. However after I see all of them salute, I feel like I've just earned all of their respect at the same time. "Well would you look at that Daniel, now anything more to say?"

While I wish I had more to say, I truly don't know what else to say, but just then I got an idea, it might work, it may not. "Training starts now the first test is endurance, get your stuff packed for three days out in the nearby forest of Burch, you all have one hour to get yourselves ready for this, now go!"

After I finished saying that all of them break for the tents they came from, "sir Daniel, if your capable of doing this, and you get all of them trained up ready for sniper action, I might just consider making you a higher rank." The idea of becoming higher rank right now doesn't bother me, it's that if I want to not take the fault for my actions, for when I suggested this to Hawk, I must succeed no matter what it takes.

When the hour had finished all of them had assembled near the forest, "alright everyone, I shall see you all again in three days right here, unless you come back to base early because it's to difficult, other then that, training officially begins now."
