After helping Ethan load our bags into his Land Cruiser we climbed in with him driving and me playing DJ in the passenger seat. I had been saving all my favourite songs into one playlist for this drive and once the music started playing it truly intensified the moment.

We both had sunglasses covering our eyes. My hair went all over the place as we had all the windows rolled down because I insisted I wanted to smell the sea breeze. Throughout the three decades I had been alive, it always smelt the same. The vegetation was so different to that back home that I took pleasure in even laying down on the grass for hours on end.

The last time we had been here I had not gotten a chance to enjoy it properly. So much was going on and I was just not in the right headspace. Where I had been, I would never know but I was not proud of it. As I looked over to Ethan his thoughts seemed to be in the same place as he clenched his jaw.
