Human Beings Are Complicated Even So For Love

"Firstly". The lawyer continued, "I must clarify that Mr. O'Connor was of sound mind when he drafted this will. All legal formalities were adhered to, ensuring the document's validity."

He shuffled his papers for a brief moment before proceeding. "To my beloved daughter, Mia O'Connor, I leave my heartfelt blessings and the entirety of my estate, including all properties, investments, and personal belongings."

Mia who was sitting in the quiet corner of the room accompanied by Lucian eyes widened in disbelief, her hand covering her mouth. The room filled with a mixture of a gasp and murmurs of astonishment as well as disgrunts.

Eddie who was sitting few seats to Mia eyes dimmed with her jaws and fist clenched tightly, her eyes narrowing with a mix of shock and resentment.

Mr. Anderson paused, allowing the gravity of the moment to sink in before proceeding.

"And then to my daughter Eddie O'Connor, I bequeath a significant sum of money as well as a collection of family heirlooms, including the antique pocket watch passed down through generations." He paused, giving Eddie a sympathetic nod.

"And finally . ." Mr. Anderson continue reading the will but Eddie was no longer listening instead she was lost in a trance oblivious to the lawyer's speech.

A wave of mixed emotions washed over the room, filling the space with tension. Mia sat there, barely able to comprehend what had just unfolded, while Eddie's expression shifted from shock to bitter disappointment.

The lawyer, sensing the fragile atmosphere, spoke once more, in a compassionate tone, "I understand that this may be an emotional moment for all of you. Please remember that the intention behind these distributions was made with deep consideration and love for each of you."

He placed the will on the table, offering his condolences, "If you have any questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our firm. We are here to help guide you through this process."

" Thank you sir". Lucian smiled and stood up walking the lawyer out of the house.

Eddie who seems to have finally gotten a grip of herself stood up furiously and lashed out at Mia angrily accusing her of manipulating their father into giving her the lion's share of the inheritance.

She couldn't believe her ears and the will the lawyer had read. She had once chanced upon her father saying he'll leave most of his properties for Eddie, for her but now it was the direct opposite.

Mia was taken aback by the accusations, she looked into her sister's eye her voice steady but filled with sadness.

"I had nothing to do with Dad's decision, I had never asked for any of this". She replied Eddie's accusations, her voice laced with a mix of hurt and disbelief.

Eddie face twisted in anger as she retorts. "Enough please. Feigning ignorance now you hypocrite, everyone knows you're the closest to him always spending time with him".

Mia scoffed shaking her head in disbelief. "Hypocrite, you mean yourself. Father had always doted on you the most but you're nothing but heartless".

" When he was alive, you barely spent time with him even when he died you never showed up but now that's it's time to read the will you're suddenly here feigning to be the good and obedient daughter".

Eddie faltered surprised at her assertiveness. " You, what are you insuinating.. .

"I wonder if my wife is wrong Miss Eddie, even I doubt your intention but I'm willing to wait for the investigation. Even though the case was closed as the murderer car was traced to the mountaintop with blood trail on the route.

The police suggested the murderer was also dead hence the case was closed but believe me I'll get to the end of this and punish the offender.

" What are you insuinating ?'. Eddie shifted backwards confused.

"Nothing, I'm just observing my duty as the son-in-law of this house".

"You . ."

"Enough". Aunt Miller yelled irritatedly and everyone kept quiet at once.

Eddie gritted her teeth, the anger in her eyes turning to a mix of bitterness and frustration.

After a tensed silence, she stormed out of the house angrily leaving a heavy cloud of silence behind.

She stood at the threshold of the house for a while pacing back and forth laden with confusion and a mix of shock which she still couldn't get over.

After waiting for a while, she pulled out her car keys and drove off the highway and into the bustling afternoon to her destination.

Arriving at the restaurant, she was immediately directed to Leonard's table where he was awaiting her presence excitedly.

"Eddie". He stood up immediately he noticed her presence and pulled out a chair for her.

He took his seat opposite her anxiously ,his heart pounding with sheer anticipation.

Eddie kept quiet for a while gazing at the floor and not knowing how to broach the topic.

Finally she raised up her head and looked straight into his eyes, her eyes filled with distress. "I wasn't given anything crucial in dad's will". She confessed, her voice fading to nothing but whispers.

"Excuse me". Leonard was caught off guard by her words and the champagne flute in his grip slid onto the cold marble floor the content spilled on the floor.

Anger surged through him and he lashed out as his frustration bubbled over.

"I really can't believe this, after all these years your father didn't see fit to acknowledge your existence". His voice rose with each words and Eddie was scared witless, never had she seen him like this, out of control, raging and angry.

Eddie perplexed and hurt by his words reached over grabbing his hands across the table.

"Leonard please try to understand me, this is not my fault just give me a little bit more of time . ."

"Time ". He scoffed cackling. "Do you think I have that. You really are useless, I thought I had grabbed the phoenix but turns out it's just the crow pretending to be the phoenix".

"What . . What so you mean ?". Eddie shuffles backwards involuntarily upon hearing his words , her voice strained with emotions.

"You don't understand, I wonder what you don't understand here Eddie. Since you can't be of help to me rather than causing trouble then we're done". He bellowed angrily at her.

"You mean . . You mean . ."

"We're done Eddie, done. Since you can't be of help to me then let's end it here". He concluded with a tone of finality and walked away from her out if the restaurant ignoring her shattered and shriveled self which was sprawled helplessly on the floor still in disbelief.
