Birthday Party

Lucian was already up and dressed by the time Aubrey woke up the next day.

He had showered, shaved and dressed and was reading a magazine.

"Get dressed quickly, it's time to go back home ". He said with a stoic expression to the annoyed Aubrey.

" Aren't we supposed to stay for our honeymoon ? ".

" Honeymoon ". He scoffed. "I have a lot of things to handle at the company rather then waste away my time for an insignificant honeymoon "".

"But . ."

"I'll be waiting downstairs ". He cut her off coldly and walked out of the room.

Their car soon arrived at Lucian's penthouse as who immediately stepped out and rushed inside.

As he walked through the front door,he suddenly felt relieved and excited to see Mia. He felt as though they had parted for ages.

He longed to be back in her arms and he rushed in . As he saw her standing by the window in the living room his heart swelled with emotions and he rushed to embrace her.

"Lucian, you're back so soon". Mia exclaimed obviously surprised to see him.

"Of course, we are back ". Aubrey who had just strutted in snorted and Mia's expression darkened, her smile hanging awkwardly.

"Just ignore her ". Lucian nudged her gently and reassuringly and Mia smiled trying to agree. "The thought of being away from you makes my heart bleed so here I am".

The duo gushed lovingly at each other totally ignoring Aubrey who stook awkwardly with her suitcase.

The couple spent the evening catching up and reminscing about their times apart ignoring Aubrey's presence.

The couple lived happily for the next few days even though there was an unwanted presence who added a glint of darkness to their happy moments together.

However their happiness was short-lived. The next morning, Lucian woke up early and lovingly prepared breakfast for his wife as he had a day off.

Aubrey watched him gently feeding Mia from the staircase seething with anger. Not only did he ignore her presence after the wedding, like an insignificant soul he spent every time he had with Mia.

He even shared the same room with Mia leaving her alone to fend for herself but today she seemed to have had enough.

Storming off back to her room, Aubrey grabbed her cellphone and dailed her father's contact immediately bursting into tears as she recounted the past previous day events.

Mr Wellington gently comforted his daughter before asking to speak with Lucian.

Lucian and Mia were both having a nice time downstairs when Aubrey intruded.

"Dad is demanding your attention". She haughtily said to Lucian throwing the phone at his chest.

Lucian brow's scrunched up in disgust but be answered the call anyways reluctantly.

"It seems you no longer know what's best for you". Mr Wellington said harshly from the other side .

" How dare you ignore and make my daughter cry, is this your responsibility as a son-in-law or as a husband or have you forgotten the company's fate is still in my hand.

"I'm giving you this one last chance . ."

" Are you threatening me ". Lucian scoffed angrily and Mia immediately pulled his sleeve gesturing to him to not argue while Aubrey snorted looking down at her.

" I'm not threatening you Lucian, you're not worth it this is your responsibility. You already agreed to it and now you want to turn back, it's too late. I've told you previously, if I see a bright future before you and my daughter, I'll let you go if not . ."

" I get it now". Lucian ran his hands through his hair frustratedly before ending the call".

" I told you". Aubrey smirked. "It'll be father's birthday in a few days, let's go shopping together to choose a perfect gift for him". Aubrey held Lucian's arms intimately.

"I understand, go get dressed". He sighed despondently and walked towards Mia but was stopped in his tracks by Aubrey before he could reach Mia.

"And where do you think you're going to?". Aubrey demanded barring his way, her eyes filled with resentment and jealousy.

Lucian shrugged his shoulder helplessly and Mia understanding the situation smiled .

"Go ahead, I also have plans for lunch with Emily". Mia replied and he nodded affirmatively agreeing to accompany Aubrey to the shopping mall.

Over the next few weeks, Mia and Lucian slowly began tearing apart their relationship becoming strained as they had little to no time together.

He was always busy with work and whenever he got home, he was always spending time with the nagging Aubrey who kept threatening him with her father and the company.

As the day went by, he found himself torn between his love and passion for his wife and his duty to the Wellington's.

He tried to spend as much time as he could with Mia but Aubrey always seemed to find a way to interrupt. It was clear that she was not going to let him go.

This went on for weeks until finally he reached his breaking point after enduring for several weeks.

He returned home early from work and headed straight to the bedroom, ready to go on a dinner date with Mia.

But he was surprised to find her crying when he got inside.

"Mia , what happened". He asked worriedly quickly rushing to her side.

"Oh". She immediately wiped her tears. "You're back early today, are you going out with Aubrey today ?".

" What went wrong, why are you crying, did anybody threaten you?". Lucian asked .

"Lucian, I think we should seperate for a while to discover ourselves and then get together when everything is set ".

She looked up at him, her eyes filled with pain and sorrows voice cracking.

"I can't compete with her, she's everything I'm not and now you need her the most, you should seize this moment to get the company back on its feet but I keep holding you back".

" Let's seperate for a while and settle everything . .

"Mia". He called gently. "I'm never agreeing to this".

"It'll only cause me more pain, my heart hurt so much seeing your interaction with her yet being lonely alone here".

" You don't need to leave nor do I need to agree with them anymore, you're all that matters the most to me even if it means letting go of the company we can always start from scratch as long as I'm with you".

" Lucian, you can't do this . "

" Now I'm moved to tears". Aubrey who was standing by the door watching them quietly walked in clapping.

"You heared me right so get out of my house right now". He yelled at the unfazed Aubrey.

" Lucian . ."

"Mia , I've set my heart at this . "He gazed at her with an affectionate and reassuring look.

" What a lovey-dovey scene too bad I have no say in this . You have to come to a conclusion with my father". Aubrey shrugged."

" You . "

"Let's discuss this over at father's birthday party tomorrow". Aubrey replied and with a disainful flick of her hair she marched out of the room.
