Days passed by in happiness, the couple Mia and Lucian were able to have some time for themselves whilst maintaining the subtle relationship between Lucian and Aubrey.
Mia sat on the couch engrossed in the TV show she was watching. Suddenly a commercial break came on, and she was hit with a wave of realization.
Today was her birthday!
She had completely forgotten about it amidst the monotony of her daily routine. She felt her heart bubbling in excitement upon the sudden realization but her elation wad soon taken over by a pang of disappointment.
She wished to spend this special day of hers with Lucian, her most beloved but he was nowhere to be found she only heard him slightly muttering to her that he was going out early in the morning that he had something important to attend to.
"Perhaps he went out with Aubrey . .
"Perhaps he forgot today was my birthday but how could he . .
She brushed away her wary thought and tried not to let it bother her but deep down she was concerned to know if he indeed forgot today was her birthday or not but as time passes by she was forced to believe the former.
Just as she was beginning to succumb to her disappointment, the doorbell rang through the house.
Racing to the door her heart danced with hope , hoping to see the huge and tall frame of her husband and she swung the door open excitedly only to be greeted by the sight of a delivery man holding an exquisite package wrapped in elegant paper and ribbons.
Mia hissed under her breath disappointedly but faced the man courteously.
"For Miss Mia". He nodded politely and passed the package to her which she received anyway although confused and surprised.
She walked briskly inside and placed the package on the table eagerly tearing it open revealing a sparkling and stunning black evening gown adorned with a touch of shiny diamond with matching accessories encased inside.
A bright red note was nestled among the silk and lace material, curiously she reached out for her and upon seeing the bold handwriting sprawled on the note, her lips curled into a knowing smile and she read the note out aloud.
Happy birthday milady. 3pm. Get dressed. I'll come pick you up. Love you.
A giddy smile spread across her face as she rushed to her bedroom to try it all on, feeling like a princess as she twirled in front of the mirror appreciating the dress that accentuates her curves, fitting perfectly.
After admiring herself she stood by the window eagerly awaiting Lucian's presence, her ears eager to pick up the familiar sound of the engine since it was just ten minutes left before three pm.
However her elation soon dimmed into worry once more. It was past three already and he still wasn't around and she couldn't shake the feeling of unease settling in her guts.
Her thoughts raced as she glanced at her phone, hoping for a message or call from him that would put her mind at ease.
Meanwhile, Lucian happily exit the restaurant which he had booked for the whole day personally for he and Mia to celebrate her special day.
It was her first birthday together as a couple and he had meticulously planned a lavish date. He had everything personally attended to, from the flowers to the location and to their matching outfits.
He could barely wait to have her in his arms, casting a careful glance on every little details for the umpteenth time he finally turn around and left. To pick the beauty up for the date.
As he made his way through the city in his car, the sense of urgency souring his anticipation for the evening he turned on the radio excitedly humming to the beats.
But the peaceful and excited atmosphere was soon tainted by the beeping of his personal cellphone.
Glancing over, it was an unknown contact but he ignored it anyway and ended the call immediately with no hesitation, he couldn't miss the auspicious moment nor keep his dearest waiting but the caller was determined to get him to pick up as the phone started ringing again, the reverbating sound tainting his colorful expression with annoyance.
"Hello". He said agitatedly as soon as he answered the call , his expression immediately morphing into a worried one as he listened to the person on the other line.
It was from Aubrey friend who had gone to the amusement park with Aubrey but now she said she suddenly can't find Aubrey. Aubrey was missing.
He suddenly took a turn and headed to the amusement park, a far journey from home. The unexpected phone call had successively pulled him away from his plan at the worst possible moment of all time.
When he got to the amusement park he immediately caught sight of Aubrey's friend who was no stranger to him pacing to and fro worriedly.
"What exactly happened ?". He approached her worriedly.
"Tada, here I am". Aubrey snapped her fingers excitedly emerging from behind him winking at her friend and the duo burst into a successive round of laughter.
"And what is this supposed to mean". Lucian bellowed angrily angry at the fact that the girls had wasted his time and pulled a cruel prank on him.
"Do you take everything for a joke". He thundered as rage burned through him.
"Why are you so angry, I just wanted to spend some time with you". Aubrey mumbled under her breath sensing his disappointment and anger.
Lucian puffed and turned around. He couldn't be bothered to argue with her besides time was spiralling away, it was already late into the evening an hour past the designated time and he couldn't bear to keep Mia waiting any longer.
"Where are you going to ?". Aubrey asked immediately trailing behind him trying to assuage his anger.
"Isn't it obvious enough, I'm going home. I have better things to spend my time on ". He replied as he weaved through the crowds making his way to his car.
"Huh, are you going to leave without me ? ".
"My actions aren't obvious enough". He scoffed as he got into the car. "Of course I am".
"You can't leave me here alone or my father will kill you and make your life miserable". Aubrey threatened realizing her soft ways won't work on him.
"Sorry, I'm too busy to care at this moment". He replied and gave her one final look before starting the car's engine but Aubrey was determined to leave together with him and grab the car's door.
Annoyed and irritated at their actions, Lucian flung her hands away and started the engine only to be alerted by a bloodcurdling scream.
Talking a quick glance at the distraction, he was shocked to see Aubrey's frail figure sent flying into the air by a speeding car at the corner.
