"A vampire's almost..." Denisha counted "30 years of love story? Seriously?"
Denisha was surprised to hear it.
"Yup, I was also in shock when I heard that. It is impossible to believe that you could love someone for 30 years without getting it back."
"That's like impossible, and he is a guy," Denisha replied. Aastha rolled her eyes.
"Den, It doesn't matter if he is a guy. Loyalty and love matter."
"Wow, that's something else. I can't imagine myself falling in love with someone and loving them for decades without getting it back. How do people do that? I mean your mama?"
"I don't know. I guess love is just love. Once it gets you, it never leaves no matter how much you try." Aastha replied.
"Love is something else. It's crazy," Denisha said in a thoughtful tone.
"I need your help," Aastha told her.
"How can a werewolf help you with this?" Denisha asked.
Even though they were different creatures, they were best friends. They had been best friends since childhood. They had so much love and support for each other. Seeing them, it seemed like a myth about Vampires and Werewolves being enemies. In their case, it was so different. Not only they, but both of their families got along with each other.
"I just want to know why he is the way he is. I mean, we now know one of the reasons, but I want to find other reasons too. What happened after college, and why was he there at her house? I want to find everything."
"Is he an angry type?" Denisha questioned.
"I don't know. Just help me, will you?" Aastha said in frustration. "I want to help my mama."
"Ok, ok, calm down," Denisha said, giving Aastha an idea.
"No way, are you nuts?" Aastha almost screamed. "This is your idea? To get to know everything? He will go and complain to aama about it."
"You are his only niece. He won't hurt you, and besides, do you have any other ideas?" She asked, rolling her eyes at her even though they couldn't see each other.
"It's not about him hurting me. It's more than that. I can't just go in front of him and say, Hey mama, I know everything about her. I saw you with her; now tell me all your secrets. like seriously? He will laugh in my face."
"What I am saying is, make him notice you. Once he knows that you know everything, He have to tell you about her. He will not have other options." Denisha shrugged.
"Oh really? If that is so, aama knows about her too, but why did he never say anything about that woman to her?"
Denisha sighed, hitting her forehead with the other hand.
"Come on, Aastha. Just try, will you? Say my name and try it, ok?"
"But...." Aastha was about to speak, but the phone went silent.
"This wolfie's going to get me in trouble," she said to herself, placing the phone in the back of her jeans pocket.
She had a wolf as her best friend. They have been best friends since they were little. They went to the same high school and were planning to attend the same college. They were always together, like nails and skin. Denisha lived quite far from where Aastha was living because her parents liked to live alone in the forest.
"Now what am I going to do with her idea?" She asked herself, thinking that it would not work.
Shaking her head and praying it worked, Aastha went towards where her uncle was. She looked for him everywhere in the house. She saw that the woman was lying alone in the bed, but there was no sign of him. She didn't even know where he lived. She remembered her mom saying something like in the hills of Palpa, but she didn't know the exact location.
Feeling tense, she went back to her home. It was already 3 a.m. Everyone was asleep. She went to her room but couldn't sleep. She had so many questions running through her head. She couldn't ask anyone because nobody had any answers.
"Someone was right. People can't be answers; they are more questions," She said.
After rolling from one side to another, finally, sleep came.
In the morning, she went to talk to Muna. Muna was on the porch, sipping coffee. Aastha asked her where he lived, to which her mom replied.
"He lives alone at the top of the hills."
"You already told me that, but I need an exact location," she said, quite annoyed.
"Why?" Her mom asked, looking at her.
"I just wanted to know. He is my mama, and I don't even know where he lives," she said very carefully so her mom wouldn't get suspicious. Muna nodded and gave her the location.
She went straight to her room and called Wolfe. Denisha agreed to come with her. They skipped college and went straight to the hills.
"Walk quickly. We are on a mission now." Denisha told her.
"Mission?" Aastha asked.
"Yes, what should we call it?" Denisha thought.
"What happened to mama Mission, or What happened to a lover...."
"Stop it, Den. We aren't on any mission." Aastha cut her off.
"I was trying to make our trip fun," Denisha groaned.
"Trip? Seriously?" Aastha questioned.
They went through the jungle so no one would see them. Finally, after like an hour, they were in front of the Prayas's house. It was a big farmhouse, unlike the woman's house, which was in the middle of the town. The woman's house had a garden and was covered with flowers, but they liked Prayas's better. There was no other house nearby. So far, they could see a paddy field and a huge garden in front of the house. They slowly entered the property. Aastha knew they were all good because her mama was not in good thinking condition. He was still mourning. She didn't know exactly what.
"Maybe the loss of her," Aastha thought, but deep down she knew that was not the only reason.
Suppose he was in good condition. He would have known they were there, and they would have been in significant trouble.
"Are you sure he won't know that we are here?" Denisha asked.
"If we go and stand an inch away from him, he won't even notice us. I know him," she replied.
In the garden, black and red roses covered most of the area. They saw him sit in the middle of the garden under a huge flower tree. When they looked up at the tree, butterflies were flying above the flowers. They looked in awe, amazed by the scene. He was half-naked. Denisha noticed a tattoo of a white lion on the back of his hand.
"Wow, the tattoo is beautiful," she said.
"I know, that's my favorite tattoo on him," Aastha replied.
"Now, it's mine too,"
They noticed a small tattoo on the back of his neck. Both of them slowly went near him to see it. They both loved tattoos and were always curious to know about them. He had a tattoo of Lord Shiva and Trisul. Aastha was not a religious person, but she liked Lord Shiva. Basically, her family was Hindu.
Her bestie would tell her time and again how handsome Prayas was. It was the first time Denisha had seen him, and she had already started to have a crush on him.
"Your mama's body is a work of art," Denisha whispered.
Aastha hit her arm, asking her to stop talking.
They got to see more of his tattoos once they were a few feet away from him. They hid behind flowers. They noticed a tattoo on his right neck. It was of an angel with long hair and long wings. Angel had a crown on her head. On his left forearm, there was a long black rose tattoo with a stem and leaf. Around the flower, there was a red glow, which Aastha found confusing but Denisha loved.
Denisha and Aastha were very different from each other. Aastha was thoughtful, while Denisha was carefree. They saw him leave the garden area and go towards the field, where there were animals. He went and gave them food and water. He had cows, chickens, and some goats. It was weird how a man like him was into farming.
Prayas went towards where vegetables were growing. They slowly followed him. He started to pluck spinach, and that's when they saw that on his right palm, there was a tattoo too. They tried to see it correctly but couldn't because they were a little far from him. He went inside the house, and they started to roam in the garden.
After sitting in the garden for what seemed like forever waiting for him to come out, it was Denisha who came up with the idea that they should go and stalk the old lady. When college time was over, they went back home so no one would get suspicious about them bunking at the college. Aastha threw her bag on the bed, and then they went to see that woman.
She was in the garden lying on the grass. After like an hour, her uncle came.
"He comes to see her every day?" Denisha was surprised.
Aastha just shrugged and watched them.
"Why is he so handsome? I mean, I never saw any vampire so attractive as him, even in their worst condition. He is so...." Denisha started to talk, and Aastha scoffed.
"Don't tell me you started to have a crush on him."
Denisha was silent, so Aastha looked at her.
"It's the first time you've seen him, and he is my mama." Aastha's eyes widened, not believing that her best friend had started to have a crush on her mama.
Was she serious?
"Oh, come on, it's just a crush. His heart is already taken by that old woe..man," Denisha funnily twisted her lips.
Aastha went silent while her wolfie focused all her attention on Prayas. He was watching the woman from afar while the woman was in deep thought, looking at the sky. Aastha noticed that he didn't have a cigarette in his fingers. They sat there for, like, hours, and not one of them moved.
Denisha would tell Aastha time and again that she was bored. Aastha would tell her to have patience. She was spending the night at Aastha's house, so it wasn't a problem. Aastha needed her there with her.
After Denisha's request, they went back home, ate dinner, and came back to find that both of them were still in the same spot. So, they decided to go inside that woman's house, hoping they would find something.
