PROLOGUE

They went back to the room and packed few things for Katherine, then went back to the living room."why are you in a hurry to leave" Kim said to them and chuckled, " come on now, am not asking you to leave, you can stay, it was your father's house anyways, I can do this much, Mr Wellington was a nice man, he made me rich" he said and let out a wicked.

"come on sweetie let's go, there is no use listening to this man" Mrs Albert said and they headed for the entrance

"you can't take the car either, it's now mine, everything in this house is mine but don't worry, you can always come back when you are ready, you will be welcomed" he shouted after them.

They came out of the mansion and boarded a taxi to Mrs Albert's house. They got to her apartment and paid the cab man. The Compound had two buildings, one on the right side and one on the left side, the one on the right side is Mrs Albert's apartment, the other apartment on the left side is occupied by another people. Mrs Albert knocked on the door of her apartment and a young girl of14 years, Mrs Albert's first daughter opened the door. The girl's lips curled into a smile when she saw her mom and she threw herself into her arms"Mom, how have you been"

"have been good, honey, you?" Mrs Albert said and hugged her daughter back

"fine, just that I missed you" .They released each other from each other's embrace and Mrs Albert cupped her daughter cheeks, with a huge smile on her face, " I missed you too sweet" she said and they both laughed, the girl looked at Katherine and asked her mom in a whisper," who is she"

"take this and let's go in" Mrs Albert said and handed her the suitcase, not answering her question. Katherine followed them inside queitely, she hasn't said a word since they left the mansion. Mrs Albert helped her sit on the couch and gave her a glass of water, " thank you" she whispered

"mummy" her second daughter, a girl of about 12 years, came running and threw herself in her mom's arm

"oh my darling, I missed my baby gal" Mrs Albert said and the girl giggled. Releasing the girl from her embrace she asked, " where were you?"

"in the toilet" the girl replied and looked at the visitor sitted on the chair with a glass of cup in her hand and then back at her mom , she asked, "who is she?"

"say hi, she is my first daughter, the one I always told you guys about

"Katherine," her first daughter Matilda said

"hmmm"

" hello" the two girls greeted

" hi" Katherine said and forced a smile

" Mirabelle, move to your sister room for the meantime and arrange your room for Katherine, she needs to rest" Mrs Albert said to her second daughter

" okay" the girl replied, then a knock was heard on the door.

"I will get it, maybe it's dad" Matilda said and hurriedly went to open the door" see I said it, it's dad" she said and chuckled, she assisted her dad with load he was carrying and locked the door behind him

"Honey"Mrs Albert called

"oh you are home" Mr Albert said and they hugged each other slightly, he looked at Katherine and threw a questioning look at his wife.

"something came up,she will be staying with us for the meantime, we really need to talk later"

"alright" he said and looked back at Katherine

" hello kate, how are you?" he said

"am fine thank you" she replied, her voice low and gentle.

Mrs Albert prepared dinner for the family and everyone ate except Katherine, she said she wasn't hungry and that she wants to rest, Mrs Albert took her to Mirabelle's room which the girl had cleaned like her mother requested and help her lie on the bed. " Are you okay?" mrs Albert asked, her eyes filled with worry

" how can I be okay" she muttered" I don't even understand what's going on?"

" earlier on, you said mr Kim caused your parent accident, what did you mean"

" isn't it obvious what I meant, does is make any sense, that my dad transferred all his properties to him, that was what was written in that document he showed us right"

" I plan on getting a lawyer tomorrow and we will go the mansion together and confirm if that document is real"

"what about the company then, the appointment of the new chairperson is tomorrow and nobody as called or came to see me, doesn't that mean that they are appointing someone else's as the new chairperson and not me, sincerely, have been having my suspicions, I knew something wasn't right, I just didn't know what to do"

"Katherine, you should have told me then"

" then what would you have done, it's not like telling you would have prevented this and I didn't want to bother you" she said and let out a sigh "it's really true that the closet person to you might be your biggest enemy, mr Kim as worked with my dad as his personal assistant for almost ten years now and with the look of things, for the past ten years he was plotting all this, don't waste money on getting a lawyer,if he is appointed as the chairperson tomorrow then that answers all, that means all the properties now belongs to him"

" Katherine what do we do"

"that company is my father's sweat I can't let an outsider have it, he can't reap where he did not sow, even if it will take me years, I will get back what is mine, everything"

" Katherine, don't do anything dangerous, what exactly do you plan on doing?"

"move back into That house, I know it will be rough, he has two sons and a wife, one is in college and the other one is in high school, they might treat me as a maid and mistreat me but then I have to fight"

" Katherine, just live here with us, let it go"Mrs Albert said and the corner of Katherine lips formed into a smile

" did you just say to let go, never, I mean never" she said

" rest for tonight, we will talk better tomorrow"

"alright" she said and laid on the bed,

" goodnight" mrs Albert said and covered her well with the cover sheet, she kissed her forehead and left the room.

She switched off the light and went to her children's room to check on them, they were chatting and laughing, then she went to her room and sat beside her husband on the bed.

" what is going on, why is Katherine staying with us"

" the house and company including the other properties has been stolen from her by mr Kim, her father's personal assistant"

"what how?"

" Mr Wellighton transferred everything to him, that's what is written in the will"

" that doesn't make sense, when he has a daughter, what do you both plan to do"

" I thought of getting a lawyer, but she said not to worry that the appointment of the company's new chairperson is tomorrow and that if he is appointed as the chairman that confirms everything"

"if everything turns out to be true, what happens then"

"she said, she is going to move back into the house and get everything back"

" will they allow her in?"

"the idiot said she could stay with them if she wishes

" really, but then they will probably mistreat her and how does she plan to get everything back, what can a sixteen years old girl do"

" Katherine is just like her father, she is very wise and intelligent"

"but still she is a child and judging from how everything is happening so fast, her parent's accident may not be ordinary, what if they hurt her, she should just stay here with us, we will raise her like our own and provide every of her needs, you are the only one she has anyway"

"I will talk to her, I will try my best to convince her, she might not listen, I know how stubborn she can be, I have known her since baby"

Just like Katherine suspected, Roy Kimberly was announced as the new chairman of "JOHNWELL" and two days later, Katherine decided to move back to the house even though Mrs Albert and her husband tried to stop her, she is just sixteen and at such a small age, she decided to fight, she knew it won't be easy, she knew she was going into a battlefield but the word "give up"is not in her dictionary. They got back to the mansion and Mr Kim had already packed in fully with his family, they met the family having lunch.

" Katherine" mr Kim called, you came back quick than I expected, he said with a smile on his face

" good afternoon sir, thank you for allowing me stay" she said even though that wasn't what she wanted to say, she had to

" no,not at all it's not a problem, meet family, this is my wife" he said and pointed to the woman seated beside him, she was a bit tall and of light skin, her brown hair dangled on her shoulder and she smiled at Katherine" hello" she said and Katherine bowed her head, from the way she looked, Katherine knew that the woman was going to make life a living hell for her, but it doesn't matter, she came here prepared for that.

" and this are my sons" he said and pointed at the two boys seated opposite them on the dinning table, Frank and Walter Kimberly, the eldest is Frank, he said and pointed to the one sitted on the right" and the youngest is Walter" he said and pointed to the one sitted on the left

" Hi" the boys said looking at her seductively and she scoffed, she isn't suprised, she is use to having boys look at her in that way, she is a goddess with a beautiful body and looks exactly like her mother.she had beautiful black hair with beautiful blue eyes,she is slim and curvy, with beautiful legs, her lips are small, plumpy and beautiful, anything looked good on her. there is no where she goes that people don't acknowledge her beauty even though she was only sixteen, both old men and young men chase after her.

"Hello" she replied and bowed her head slightly.

"I will take her to her room" Mrs Albert said and bowed her head, they were about to leave when mrs Kim's wife spoke" her belongings are no longer in that room , they are in the guest room, if she isn't cool with it, she can go to the servant's quarter"

" what" mrs Albert said, she was about to talk when Katherine cut in

" it's alright ma, thank you" she said and mrs Albert looked at her with worry"

"it's okay" she whispered to her and they left for the guest room.her things were already in there, scattered on the ground and mrs Albert helped her arrange and cleaned the room.

" Katherine are you sure about this, this people are definitely going mistreat you"

"it's okay"

"what if their sons do something bad to you"

"it's okay, I will be fine"

"Katherine just how much risk are you willing to take?"

"It doesn't matter, please leave, thank you for everything, for now I want to be alone"

"alright take care of yourself" she said and sniffed back the tears that had welled up in her eyes." I will come to check on you from time to time"

"alright thank you"

"take care" she said and left and Katherine lied on her back on the bed.Tears welled up in her eyes and rolled down her cheek and she wiped them off with the back of her hands, she is going to survive, remain strong and get back what is hers, secretly, she is going to fight them and make them crawl on their knees and beg her from mercy, she is Katherine after all, Katherine Wellington. She thought and the door to her room banged open. She hastily wiped her tears with her palms and jumped on her feet. Miranda Kimberly, mr Kim's wife stood at the entrance holding the door knob her grey eyes looking directly into her own beautiful blue eyes and she bowed her head slightly" ma'am do you need me for something?" she asked

"no, I came to put you in your place" she said and walked into the room" I don't know why my husband is so generous, you know, for your father's sake, he allowed you stay here but you know we can't waste our money to pay your school fees in that expensive school, so you won't go there anymore, find yourself a public school and register there and if you want to drop out, you are free, after your secondary education, my husband said you can go to a federal university if you wish to, their tuition is cheap, we can't waste money on you after giving you shelter and feeding you and you will also work as my sons personal maid, you must do everything they want and ask you to do, you can at least do that much after all we've done for you" she said and chuckled"you are like cinderella, you know the story right, a princess turn maid, well at the end she got lucky you know, she married a prince and became a princess but am not sure your story will end that way, happy ending, I doubt it" she said, chuckled and left the room

"well we shall see, whether it will be a happy ending for you and your family or not, I doubt it, because am going to make sure it's a sad and sorrowful ending" Katherine said to herself angrily and shut the door to the room, " our money?" she said and scoffed, they belong to my father, they are my father's sweat" she said and sat at the edge of the bed." mom and dad please watch over me" she said and wept quietly.
