Mediocrity in a genius society.

My name is Tenji Yatogami. I am 15 years old, and today is the day I start high school. The high school I am going to is known as Tensai Academy, a sanctuatry for geniuses, heirs of rich families, and architects of the future of the country. If you graduate from Tensai Academy, you can get into any university you want. No normal person can get into Tensai Academy. Then how did I get in ?

The answer my friends is simple, it is because threads of faith woven by my beloved sister Kazuki. Kazuki Yatogami is a person who is good at everything, a genius of geniuses, and the only person I consider family. Let me give you a nutshell of how much of genius my sister is. She is the only person in history to get a perfect score on Tensai Academy's entrance exam. Even the smartest people only average about 80%, but she got perfect 100%. Have you ever heard of the saying "Jack of all trades, but master of none."In my sister's case, it would be master of all trades and leaving no room for 'jack of none' .

By now, you must have a gist of my sister's brilliance. 'Hmmmm, does it sound like I am bragging? If it does, it is probably because I am bragging.' Well, let's talk about how I got into Tensai Academy. As I have said before, Tensai Academy is only for extraordinary people. Even trying to take the entrance exams is very difficult for the normal person because of all the procedures and security. As Tensai Academy nurtures the children who are going steer the world into another direction in future. The government takes very good care of Tensei Academy even though it is a private school.

Kazuki, my sister, attended a middle school affiliated with this august institution. She coerced that school to welcome me as well, granting me the right to attempt the entrance exam.

To make me pass the entrance exam, Kazuki helped me study twenty-four by seven, which I was quite grateful and bitter for. In the end, I miraculously passed the entrance exam with a score of 56 out of 100, which may sound low, but even getting a 30 is a miracle for the average person. Today is the day I go to Tensai Academy.

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock, I got myself ready and ate some toast made by Kazuki. Kazuki had already left for school super early. As she was the student council president, she was super busy because of the entrance ceremony. She insisted on going together to school, but I declined.

We, the Yatogami siblings, lived in an apartment building, which was like ten minutes walking distance from school.

I arrived at school perfectly on time. I followed an electronic sign board directing the first years to the auditorium. I took a seat and looked around. I saw a lot of familiar faces from middle school, but chose solitude for now.

"Everyone take a seat and quiet down," said a woman wearing a suit. That woman introduced herself as the vice principal. Then, on stage, an oldman spoke, " I am the founder of Tensai Academy Masamune Miyabi." His words were few, but the weight of his presence pressed upon us. Masamune Miyabi ended with, " I do not have much to say, so I will give the podium to the student council president of Tensai Academy." As the audience fell silent, a petite girl with long white hair that cascaded down to her knees, eyes as vibrant as rubies, fair skin, and a height on the shorter side, made her entrance. Yet, her stature in no way diminished the mature and graceful presence she exuded as she took the stage. The girl receives the mike from founder Masamune. She speaks, " My name is Kazuki Yatogami. This is my second year as a student and also as the president of Tensai Academy." Kazuki talks about the rules and regulations of the school and all the boring stuff that would be in a speech. But surprisingly, I was the only one who was bored to death. Everyone else was giving all of their attention to Kazuki.

She concluded with, "Tensai Academy imparts the finest education, but the choice to wield or squander it resides with each of you." Applause thundered but Kazuki stops as she is about to exit stage and gives me a warm smile.

I walk through the hallway searching for my homeroom, which is 1A. I hear people singing praises of Kazuki, especially from the first years, which was getting kinda of annoying.

I finally arrive at 1A classroom, I enter it, and I find a seat near the window side. I notice people taking glances at me, I put on headphones so that no one can approach me. I see some familiar faces in the classroom, but I decided to opt for isolation and wait for the teacher.

You might think that I am being anti-social, but that's not it. After winter break, I forgot how to socialize. During the winter break, I became a hermit, confined myself to solitude . My conversation were limited to Kazuki and convenience store employees. One time Kazuki was so tired of my hermit life that she decided to trick me into going outside. Kazuki went to another town for an art exhibition, she called me and faked being hospitalized. I being the super worrysome brother rushed to the next town, but guess what? Kazuki was there perfectly fine. After that she forced me to go to the beach and build sandcastles. You may think of that as childish but for Kazuki it was always a special memory. In the end I enjoyed it too, however I continued my life as a hermit.

Finally, after a few minutes, a teacher enters the classroom.
