Catherine was seated outside of her house, on her porch, after the conversation with David, she felt bad about how she had acted towards Seraphina. She knew and understood how hard things were for her.
Catherine had gone to ask for Seraphina from her mother but she said that Seraphina wasn't home yet and she didn't know where she was.
Just as she sighed out loudly, her eyes rested on Seraphina walking by with a smile on her face, she was a little bit confused and wondered why and how Seraphina was smiling.
"Sera!!" She called out
Seraphina's smile faded as she turned and saw Catherine waving and smiling at her before beckoning her.
Seraphina sighed, feeling hesitant.
She had mustered every bit of patience and courage she had so she could face her parents until Sebastian was ready with a plan but not with Catherine, she felt annoyed.
She hid her annoyance with a little feigned smile as she walked over to Catherine.
"Hi," She said, her tone low
"Where have you been, sera? I've been looking for you" Catherine said with a smile.
Seraphina was boiling with anger inside of her, she tried her best to control her anger from pouring out with a feigned smile on her face.
"With a friend," she replied.
"Oh," Catherine looked surprised. "I didn't know you had a friend" she added
Seraphina let out an inaudible sigh, her face still carved with a feigned smile
"Well, I do...I have lots of friends" she stated
Catherine chuckled,
"Well, I would love to meet them sometime"
Seraphina smirked, she wondered why Catherine was trying so hard to act like nothing had happened between them before like she didn't loudly yell at Seraphina to stop dragging her into her family's issues.
"Okay, bye then," Seraphina said and turned to walk away, she was fed up.
"Oh, wait" Catherine quickly said and held her arm.
"I just wanted to apologize for the way I acted towards you earlier, I shouldn't have said what I said.." Catherine was saying
"You said the right thing" Seraphina cut in
" I'm sorry I have been bothering you too much with my family issues and I'm sorry that my parents call you whenever there seems to be a problem, like always, I'm sorry and I promise to keep my family issues to myself, and stay away from your peaceful and happy family, bye!" She stated and quickly turned to walk away
"No Seraphina..that's not what I meant..I..." Catherine tried to explain but Seraphina had already walked away.
..
"Seraphina" Olivia called as she saw her daughter walk into the living room from where she was seated.
"Where is father?" Seraphina asked as she gazed around
"Your father just left," Olivia stated.
"Mr. Sullivan invited him for dinner" she added
"What?!" Seraphina gasped out in shock.
"What..what for?"
Olivia slightly adjusted herself on the couch, she knew her daughter was already getting annoyed.
"Well, you know, for the marriage between you and Ethan," she said
Seraphina gasped out, she covered her face with her hands. She was fed up with how her parents were solely frustrating her life.
"Seraphina, why don't you give Ethan a chance, I think he loves you and maybe he just wants to make things right," Olivia said
Seraphina chuckled drly as she gazed at her mother. Her eyes were not blurry with tears this time, instead, they were evident with fury.
"I don't think so, Mother" Seraphina began
" Ethan doesn't love me, he just loves to see me miserable. And if he really just wanted to make things right, he shouldn't have shown up six years after ruining my life and then asked for a marriage with me through you guys without even meeting me first"
"Well, maybe he just wanted to surprise you," Olivia said.
Seraphina just stared at her mother in disbelief. She felt so disappointed.
Olivia's face carved into a sudden smile as she continued,
"You know how shy he used to be in high school especially when you brought him to us for the first time, he was so cute back then, I..."
"Stop it, Mother! Please stop it" Seraphina yelped, Olivia was startled
A moment of silence swept across the living room.
"What happened to you and father?" Seraphina asked slowly
"What do you mean ?" Olivia asked, confusion evident on her face.
"Ever since Ethan and his family came into our lives six years ago, you guys have been different. What did they do to you and father?" Seraphina asked slowly
"They did nothing to us, Seraphina," Olivia quickly replied. She felt uneasy all of a sudden and Seraphina could clearly see it.
Seraphina came closer to her mother
"No, they did something. Talk to me, mother"
"Stop it Seraphina. You are only trying to manipulate me and that won't work" Olivia stated sharply
" I'm not trying to manipulate you mother, I'm only seeking the truth. What did the Sullivans do to you and father? Did they threaten you guys because of me? Huh?" Seraphina pressed on
"That's not what happened, Seraphina" Olivia jerked up on her feet.
"Then what happened?! I need to know, mother! I need to know why you and father stopped caring and just folded your arms and watched their son make my life miserable and did absolutely nothing and then pretended like nothing happened" Seraphina stated, her tone sharp and filled with emotions.
Olivia just remained still and quiet where she stood.
"Mother, talk to me. Did Ethan's parents threaten you and father?" Seraphina pressed on.
She knew something was up in their sleeve and was determined to find out even though it was a bit too late and would probably only get her more heartbroken by finding out the truth.
"I'm sorry Seraphina" Olivia suddenly started to cry out.
It startled Seraphina. She just watched as her mother sat down on the couch and continued to cry.
This was a first for Seraphina, she'd never seen her mother cry. And now she felt bad about being so stubborn with her questions.
"Mom" Seraphina called softly as she sat beside her mother, with a sad look on her face.
"We did not mean to hurt you, Seraphina" Olivia started to say amidst her crying.
"I have to let it all out. I have been in too much pain keeping it all to myself and seeing you get hurt. And it's all my fault. I'm your mother and I shouldn't have given up on your happiness just because of a little threat from those people" Olivia stated as she slowly wiped off her tears.
"What do you mean?" Seraphina asked
Olivia slowly turned to look her daughter in the eyes. She slowly grasped Seraphina's hands and patted them slowly.
