"And when the marks fade, another lie?" she asked irritatingly.
He smirked mischievously at her words, before leaning over to whisper into her ear, "No worries, I will renew them every night."

The clerk bowed slightly as Enoch walked away, holding her breath so he would not turn back and say she disrespected him by breathing the same air as he was.

"Whoops! Thank God I did not behave like Hazel and decide to stay at the mansion, or I would have been suffocated by so many powerful people around me," she muttered, when she was sure Enoch was out of hearing distance.

Well...even though she already resigned from working in the DeLoach's mansion, she knew that was only on paper. She knew the secrets of that family to a particular extent and also understood why they couldn't just let her leave like she never worked there. Her daily life was still under careful scrutiny.

'I should probably get myself into the good books of this young madam so I can at least be cut some slack,' she thought.
