Soon, the young lady looked sideways found a corpse alongside the pile of zombies in the hall way. Her expression immediately changed and clearly, she began to panic.
"W-wah! Simon!?" She rushed forwards at the corpse of a young man, and knelt down with tears glistening down her face.
Jacobs fist clenched tightly and he gritted his teeth. A flash of sorrow and sympathy in his eyes. He knew people would die eventually but he thought he would at least be able to keep them safe for a while.
"Glinda, Daveen, Peter and Katniss, get everyone into their rooms. I will handle this." His eyes closed as he whispered to the team.
The others nodded and they were about to move when Ryver's voice sounded.
"Just a moment." Ryver's right hand slowly but surely raised as he pointed his gun towards Peter.
Immediately, everyone's expression changed, the survivors who had come out previously quickly backed away to their room, not wanting to be within the crossfire.
"Ryver? What the hell are you doing?" Jacob growled, pointing his sword threateningly at Ryver. He was obviously confused and angry.
Peter's eyes widened in fear and he backed away slowly until his back was against the wall.
"What the fuck?" Katniss remarked in anger, but remained in place for fear Ryver might just pull the trigger. While Glinda furrowed her eyebrows but didn't say anything as she backed away.
Blood pooled down from Peter's left thigh and he lightly scratched with his other foot nervously.
"Ryver please, if I can raise my vitality to 10, I should be able to resist it." Peter's expression was one of bitterness as he wore a pleading look on his face, his breathing increased, causing fog on the improvised gas mask.
Ryver shook his head expressionlessly. "Its too late, you can't amass that much Evo points within a short period-" Ryver hadn't finished his words when he was interrupted by Jacob's angry voice.
"Drop the gun Ryver, Its only a scratch, not a bite. It's not as fatal as it seem. The infection takes time with a scratch. We can help him raise his vitality level before he turns." Jacob glared at Ryver, his sword still pointed at Ryver. He had lost a lot of people under his care today and that had given him a massive jolt, he wasn't ready to lose anyone especially one of his executives.
"Can you guarantee you can gather enough pure radiation for him to evolve before he gets contaminated and then turns?" Ryver smiled and said as he stared at Jacob who remained silent with gritted teeth.
"I didn't think so." Ryver replied with a shrug.
"Stop!"
Ryver's finger pulled and the trigger clicked.
"BANG"
"No!"
The bullet tore through the air and with intense speed slammed into Peter's skull, splattering blood and brain matter to the atmosphere, as it splashed on both Jacob and Katniss's face.
Everyone looked on in shock. The survivors quickly ducked inside their rooms.
"Are you fucking insane!?"Katniss's eyes were wide open in disbelief. She didn't actually think Ryver would pull the trigger.
"One scratch or bite, one bullet." Ryver responded with a slight smile. It was as though he had just killed a fly, not a human being.
"Just because you have a gun does not mean you get to decide who live and who fvcking dies!" Katniss's yelled.
"Are you sure about that?" Ryver raised his gun and pointed at Katniss, his finger on the trigger.
Katniss face paled as she clenched her teeth, gazing defiantly at Ryver, but she couldn't say a word. Ryver had just killed a man in cold blood, she knew there was a possibility Ryver might pull the trigger since he was obviously a fvcking psychopath!
"Ryver, you've made your point. Put the gun down, no need to go that far." Glinda said slowly and carefully.
His gun still pointed at Katniss, Ryver saw the survivors looking at him with fear in their eyes like he was some sort of freak or a serial killer.
"He!"
He chuckled lightly, creating a slight fog on his improvised gaze mask covering his entire face.
"Just joking Katniss."
He wasn't surprised they couldn't see why he had done that. Glinda could see it though, but her vision is still too narrow. While Jacob is letting his humanity get to him, sooner or later, it would get him killed.
Jacob was to be blamed for the death of the survivors. When he had the tiniest bit of suspicion about Jonathan, why didn't he throw him out of the team? Or watch him closely? But now Jonathan betrayed them and even attracted zombies to this floor succeeding in killing a few survivors. But with Ryver as the variable he hadn't calculated the casualty to be contained to the minimal. Well, it wasn't as thought Jonathan can do anything now that he's dead. This made Ryver sigh.
Jacob didn't pay any heed to the drama after Peter's death.
He was quick to move as he held Peter's falling body in the air, gently leading him to the ground. His Jaws were clenched tightly as he removed Peter's gas mask and closed his eyes with his fingers.
After a while, he rose up slowly to his feet, his fist tightly clenched on his sword.
Ryver was indifferent, watching Jacob with slight amusement in his eyes.
Suddenly, Jacobs eyes flashed and his sword turned to a blur. Before anyone could react, his sword was already pointed at Ryver's neck. The others immediately tensed up at the heavy atmosphere.
"Last I remember, I am the leader of this group not you. This is the last time you disrespect that authority, do you understand?" Jacob's eyes were filled with killing intent, the tip of his sword, drawing slight blood on Ryver's neck
Ryver's mouth curled upwards. He was finally acting like a leader. He might just survive the apocalypse after all.
Ryver held Jacob's gaze, pure fighting intent glistened through his pupils like a wild fire.
However, Ryver managed to curb it and slowly nodded his head. "Alright, we will do as you say."
Jacob's jaws were clenched tightly as his sword remained on Ryver's neck even after he seem to have agreed.
"You understood my signal at the second floor yesterday, why didn't you act?" Ryver's grin widened, revealing sharp rows of teeth as he heard Jacob said this.
"Hehe, just because." Ryver laughed and replied with a shrug. This made Jacob frown even deeper. It was at this moment he soon realized just what sort of person he was dealing with.
Withdrawing his blade, he gave a sidelong glance at the others. "Daveen, gather some of the survivors and toss the corpses off the building through the broken glass walls."
"Glinda, go check out the store and make sure everything is accounted for."
"Katniss, get the lady off her brother, we don't want her to get infected and take off his gas mask, we need it in case we find other survivors." Within the blink of an eye, Jacob had gone back to giving orders, even more efficient than before.
The executives scattered and got to doing their jobs. Before leaving, Katniss gave Ryver an intense glare. She wasn't ready to let things rest and Ryver would most likely appreciate it.
