The Dream

Do you remember the dream?

Last night you dreamed of perfection

The dream was obtainable

It was for all the boys

You dreamed of a car

You lived in a house

There was a picket fence

You had a family

A little boy and girl

You went to church on Sundays

And of course your wife

She was a hard working woman

She kissed you when you got home from work

She cooked dinner for the family

She cleaned the house

She got the kids ready for school

But she had a dream too

Do you remember the dream?

Yesterday you dreamed of perfection

The dream was obtainable

It was for all the girls

You dreamed of a family

A little girl and boy

A husband that provided for all four of you

He loved all of you

He worked for the big man

Kissed you when he got home from work

He played with the kids

He had a dream

Now those dreams are gone

Faded memories

New dreams emerged

Dreams of changing the world

Dreams of becoming famous

Dreams of being rich

Dreams of winning the lottery

All those dreams have sprung about

But they are unobtainable

He dreams of staying home

She dreams of working

You both don't want children

Not in this world

You create impossible dreams

You chase them like a dog's tail

You won't achieve your dream

Only the lucky will achieve them

They'll only ever be dreams
