After enduring a long nightmare of fainting and waking up repeatedly, Emma finally regained consciousness in a hospital bed. Her body was covered in bruises and cuts, her shoulder dislocated, several ribs fractured, and she was suffering from internal bleeding.

Her mother was crying loudly beside her.

"Emma, oh my God, Emma," her mother sobbed, clutching her hand tightly. "I'm so sorry. I should have listened to you."

Emma tried to speak, but her throat was too dry, her voice too weak. She could only manage a faint whisper, "Mom..."

"I didn't know, I didn't believe you," her mother continued, tears streaming down her face. "If only I had listened..."

"It's too late, Mom. Your apology doesn't change anything," Emma said coldly, her eyes staring blankly at the ceiling.
