Manual - 3

While on his way, Edge decided to check his status. One of the great features of the game was that players didn't always have to say specific words. By simply thinking about it, the information would appear. So, Edge focused on his status, and soon it materialized in front of him.

"Hmm, fancy. I think I should also read the instruction manual included with it," Edge remarked and clicked to open the manual. However, he was surprised to discover that he could only read the manual once. Frustrated, he muttered, "What the hell is this? Are they doing this because nobody reads the manual?" Despite his annoyance, Edge reluctantly read the concise ten-page manual. It contained information on various aspects, such as making the status screen transparent, changing the stats assignment to "Mind" for easy distribution without moving his hands, and other useful tips. After spending more than 30 minutes reading and testing specific features,

Edge closed the manual for good.

Selecting a class in the game was relatively easy compared to choosing a bloodline and race. To get a class, all Edge had to do was go to the Adventurers Hall and obtain his Voyager license.

Players in the game were referred to as Voyagers.

After acquiring the license, he would return to the Temple, where he first spawned, to complete the class selection and related quests.

Edge made his way to the Adventurers Hall, where he obtained his license without much trouble. It was a digital ID that was attached to his status, ensuring he wouldn't lose or misplace it.

Surprised to see that most players immediately went for the class selection after obtaining their license, Edge realized that they were wasting valuable time. The manual explicitly stated that hunting monsters after gaining the Voyager license yielded more experience than doing so after choosing a class. Most players had skipped reading the manual entirely.

Edge saw this as an advantage for himself since the manual would only be available in the status for one day before disappearing. It contained crucial information about classes, quests, and experience points (EXP). Class change quests took a minimum of one day, so Edge decided to focus on monster hunting to level up first, explore the world, and then tackle the class selection quests when he had accumulated enough power. The manual had mentioned that class change quests remained equally difficult regardless of the player's level, so it was advantageous to increase one's level before attempting them.

Heading towards the outskirts of the forest in the west, away from civilization, Edge sought a peaceful hunting ground. Soon, he spotted some gooey creatures and recognized them as slimes. He found them rather cute and hesitated to attack them.

"Wow, they're slimes! They're so adorable. I don't really want to hunt something this cute, but I guess I have to," Edge mused, unable to identify them due to his lack of skills. Armed with a training sword, a training shield, a spear, and a bow with arrows from his starter pack, along with some additional items, Edge cautiously approached the slimes, attempting to sneak up on them. Unfortunately, his stealth attempt failed.

"Aww man, they've seen me. I thought they'd run away," Edge cursed his mistake but continued forward, surprised to see that the slimes didn't flee. Instead, they seemed to smile at the intruder.

"I can't let sentimentality get the better of me. This is a golden opportunity for me to gain an advantage over other players," Edge told himself, mustering the determination to strike a slime with his sword.

After wiping out all the slimes in the area, Edge sat down on the ground, feeling a mixture of satisfaction and guilt.

"Damn, I can't believe I killed all those poor little things. But at least I gained some benefits from it. Surprisingly, they awarded me two titles," Edge reflected on his accomplishment. "Oh right, I almost forgot about the level-ups."

(You gained a level) × 5

"You get 10 stat points with each level up. However, the manual mentioned that the basic starting stats for players are already higher than those of normal NPCs. I think I can hold off on allocating my points for a few days," Edge decided, aware of the potential advantages he had as a player.

In this gaming world, NPCs were supreme. With millions of them, some exceeding level 500 and thousands of them surpassing level 800, with hundreds even reaching level 1000, they were considered demi-gods. However, players weren't at the mercy of the NPCs. Players had a basic stat advantage over NPCs, they gained 10 stat points per level compared to NPCs' 5 , and had access to races, bloodlines, unique stats, and unique superpowers more easily , giving them tremendous potential.

Patience and time were key to becoming the strongest.

Edge checked his status once again:
