CHAPTER FOUR

Kambili started staying with his uncle in the city and started a new life, His uncle was a successful businessman, married to a beautiful wife and had three kids.

His uncle enrolled him in one of the best secondary schools in town. Then his kids were still in primary school.

He provided all that Kambili needed. He took good care of him and made sure he hardly missed his parents.

Kambili was so brilliant. He was one the best students in his class. His uncle never regretted paying his school fees because he always came out with flying colours at the end of each term. He became a role model for his uncle's children.

As he had no other close relatives in the village, there wasn't any reason for him to travel home. He remained in the city with his uncle's family.

Few years later, Kambili had finished his secondary education and gained admission into the university.

He had grown to become a very handsome and intelligent young man.

He was a very shy type. He hardly talked to ladies, even though they liked being around him.

He avoided them like a plague and would always face his studies with all seriousness.

During his second year, there was a young lady whom he usually met at the library anytime he goes there to read or to make some research. He loved the fact that she was beautiful and still focused more on her studies. He admired the girl so much but never spoke to her.

So one day, Kambili came to the library and saw the girl already seated alone as usual and reading one of her books. He saw that there was a vacant seat beside her. He got closer, greeted her and sat in the vacant space.

The girl was engrossed in her notebook and didn't notice much of Kambili's presence.

Kambili's notebook was opened before him. He was reading but not understanding, his mind was far away. He was thinking of how to strike a conversation with her but he lacked the courage to do that.

He was still thinking and flipping his notebook when the girl packed the books she came with and stood up. She went to the library attendant's table, signed out and left.

Kambili watched her from a distance as she left the library.

Kambili knew he hadn't achieved his purpose of visiting the library that very day but he was happy that he sat close to the lady after his heart.

"It wasn't a bad day after all," he thought.

He continued following her up, he noticed she was a bookworm. He could tell where she was at any point in time.

One day Kambili was on his way to the library when he saw her coming from another direction.

"Excuse me, pretty"

She turned and stopped with a smile on her face.

"Sorry to bother you, I just want to tell you that I love the way you take your studies seriously. I always see you around here. Keep it up."

She smiled again.

"Thank you, I think I've seen you a couple of times here too."

That's true." he smiled looking fulfilled.

"I am Kambili, what about you?"

"Priscilla."

"What's your department?"

"Banking and Finance."

"Ok. I am in Accountancy department. Nice meeting you," he said stretching out his hand for a handshake.

"Nice meeting you too," she shook his hand.

Both of them left for the library.

From that day, they became friends. They started reading together.

As time goes on, they became very close friends and always looked out for each other.
