CHAPTER TEN

Kambili was seated outside that evening on a wooden bench and looking anxiously.

It's already been three days since he terminated the covenant but nothing remarkable had happened.

It was already getting late, so Kambili carried the wooden bench to the room and was ready to retire to bed.

Suddenly he heard someone call his name, he rushed out but saw no one.

He was so confused.

As he was trying to go back to his room the voice came a second time he turned but See's no one again.

Then he looked closely at where the voice came from and saw an ugly dwarf man facing him.

Kambili was startled.

He wanted to run but something restrained him. He was unable to move.

The dwarf man had a short black wrapper tied around his waist and his bulgy eyes shining like black pearls, he stood and gazed at Kambili for some moments in rage. Then he spoke.

"Kambili, son of Vincent, you are free," he said in the most sober manner.

He turned and walked away and suddenly disappeared in the dusk.

Kambili was watching but couldn't ascertain where he entered.

He was still standing spooked.

Then he suddenly recovered himself and everything seemed like a nightmare to him.

He quickly entered his room.

He couldn't sleep nor leave his room, he was terrified but very happy as well.

In the morning, he hurriedly rush to his uncle's place and related the whole scenario to him. He was so glad that Kambili was free at last.

Few days later, they went back to the city.

Kambili mourned his second for six months and continued his normal life afterwards.

A year later, Kambili summoned courage and married again.

In no time, she got pregnant and put to bed safely after the ninth months. It was a joyful moment for Kambili and his family.

It was then five years since Kambili terminated the covenant and he had two healthy children and expecting another with his new wife.

The covenant was truly terminated and he was finally set free indeed.
