The night after the execution, Acadiah seems quiet and still. The streets are empty, and only the sound of the wind can be heard. But beneath the surface, there is tension in the air. People are whispering behind closed doors, and fear is brewing in the shadows.
Lucian, meanwhile, is walking home with a heavy heart. He can't stop thinking about the sorcerer's execution, and he's haunted by the look of terror on the man's face. He finally arrives at his house, but the door is already open.
Lucian enters his house, his heart heavy with the events of the day. He sees his dad sitting in his favorite chair, and immediately apologizes for what happened.
The father looks up at his son, his eyes full of sadness and anger.
"Don't apologize, son," the dad says, his voice thick with emotion. "You're not responsible for the actions of others."
"I know this is hard, dad," Lucian says, taking his dad's hand. "I know you cared about him. And I know it's painful to see someone of your kind being punished in such a way."
The father looks at Lucian, his eyes shining with gratitude. "Thank you, son. I appreciate you saying that. I know it's not easy for you either."
Lucian takes a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. "I know, dad. But it's just so horrible to see someone like that being executed."
The father nods, understanding Lucian's distress. "It's never easy to see violence, son. But sometimes it's necessary to protect the people we love."
Lucian's face is in grief and sadness, he took a deep breath again waving his head from the terror of the man that got executed. His dad already sensed his thoughts.
"Son, sometimes the choices we make lead us down a path we never expected. And sometimes the path we're on takes a turn we never saw coming. We can't control our fate - but we can control how we respond to it."
His father's words are thoughtful and poignant, and Lucian feels a sense of comfort and understanding.
Lucian wondered in his heart, what evil could this sorcerer have done to deserve this execution. Unknowingly to him that his dad has read his thoughts, his father broke in the conversation.
"The sorcerer was caught when he was seen using his magic to create fire for cooking food in his home," the dad explained, his voice grave.
"He was forbidden from entering the forest to forage for food because he couldn't pay his taxes, but he was desperate."
" When the townspeople saw him using his magic, they reported him to the king."
The dad paused, his brow furrowed.
"The king saw this as a threat to the kingdom," his dad continued. "He believed that the sorcerer's magic could be used for evil purposes, and he could not be allowed to live."
" The king was determined to make an example of him, and he ordered his execution."
His father's voice was tinged with sadness, and Lucian could see the weight of the situation on his father's shoulders.
"I know this is hard to hear," his dad said, placing a hand on Lucian's shoulder. "But I want you to know that I believe the king's decision was wrong."
"But, father," Lucian said hesitantly, "what if the king finds out about you, too? What if he orders your execution as well?"
The father looked at his son, his expression grave.
"I understand your fear," he said, "but you mustn't let it control you."
"Fear is the enemy of success, and we cannot allow it to dictate our lives."
He paused, placing a hand on Lucian's shoulder.
"We cannot abandon our home and our kingdom, no matter the risk."
Lucian stared at his father, his eyes filled with doubt.
"But what if we're not safe here?" he asked, his voice trembling. "What if the king comes after us?"
His dad's face was resolute, his eyes determined.
"We must have faith," he said firmly. "Faith in our own strength, faith in our abilities, and most importantly, faith in each other. I will not abandon you, and I know you will not abandon me."
"We will face whatever comes our way, together. Do you understand?"
Lucian swallowed hard, then nodded.
The father's face softened, a gentle smile replacing the stern expression.
"I know this is a lot to take in," he said. "It's okay to be afraid, Lucian. But you are stronger than you know. I know you can face whatever comes our way."
Lucian felt his fear begin to fade, replaced by a sense of determination. His father was right. They were stronger together than apart.
"I'm ready, father," he said, his voice firm.
As they spoke on and on.
The wind blew gently through the trees, rustling the leaves and filling the air with a soft whispering sound. The sun was beginning to set, casting a warm orange glow across the land. The sky was a brilliant blue, dotted with wispy clouds. The grass was lush and green, swaying gently in the breeze. And Lucian and his father stood together, united in their strength and their love for each other.
