(36) Katlyn's changes

The news of Katlyn waking up reached her parents in no time.

Both of them arrived at the hospital, leaving behind all their work. They broke into tears almost immediately, seeing Katlyn whose face had already been treated.

As per her female lead role, Katlyn's face surpassed any of the supportive characters Lucas slept with or came across.

Katlyn's yellowish-brown hair was just like the sun, her skin was fair and her face was perfectly shaped. If Lucas were to rate it, he would have given her 99 out of 100 without any hesitation.

"Mom, Dad, enough. If you keep crying I won't be able to hold back too." Katlyn stopped her tears forcefully, feeling embarrassed internally.

Doctor Hurven walked into the room at that moment, briefing Katlyn's parents on her condition.

"The outer layer of her face doesn't have any of the remnant mana, so we could heal her face using just a low-rank potion. But..."

"But what?!" Katlyn's father impatiently bellowed.

"Ahem, the remnant mana is still mostly present throughout her brain and skull. In other words, she will still experience seizures like usual..." Hurven's eyes flashed with sadness looking at Katlyn and her parent's devastated expression.

"Isn't there anything we could do?" This time Katlyn's mother spoke up while rubbing away her tears.

"...It's impossible unless a miracle occurs again, Mam." Hurven shook his head decisively after thinking for a second.

Doing his job, Hurven walked out of the room, letting Katlyn spend some personal time with her family.

Seeing her family's sad faces, Katlyn couldn't help but feel guilty.

"Mom, it's alright..." Katlyn held her mother's hand comfortingly.

However, opposite of stopping, Katlyn's mother began to break into another spree of sobbing.

"No...Katlyn, we're really sorry!"

"No, what are you..."

"We couldn't seek justice for you even after all that happened! The people who did this to you didn't receive any punishment for it. We're really sorry...sob!"

Katlyn's body froze. As if her heart was being squished, an immense amount of pain spread through her. A burning rage, unlike her personality, rose deep within her.

'My whole life was destroyed because of them, but why...how CaN ThEy tHeRe To LiVe a NoRmAl LiFe!' Katlyn felt frenzied emotions taking over her head.

As Lucas had predicted, her mind was definitely affected by experiencing the extreme situation she was put through.

Suddenly, like a trigger that was switched off, Katlyn's mind was cleared of these frenzied emotions.

"Mom! Do you know the one who sang songs for me the past week or so?!" Katlyn's expression grew serious while sitting on the patient's bed.

"Sing songs? Who are you talking about?" Katlyn's father asked sadly.

Katlyn's expectation was dashed immediately, making her look down with an anguished expression.

Katlyn remembered the conversation after she woke from a coma.

"Who...?" Hurven tilted his head, hearing Katlyn's question.

"The one who sang songs for me...!" Katlyn impatiently asked back.

At that moment, Hurven's expression froze incomprehensibly.

"No way, she could hear his voice...? But that is impossible, there is no way anyone's voice could have reached her in that state...this is very strange...."

Looking at Hurven's frantic face, Katlyn could only frown in confusion: "Doctor?"

"Oh, sorry. About the song, I think it's most likely an illusion for you to cope with the suffering."

Hurven quickly left the room, explaining as such.

....

A light of enlightenment passed through Katlyn's face.

"While...I had a seizure, what did you...I mean what was usually done?"

Katlyn's mother tilted her head, "At the start, they allowed us to visit you for a month and a half while having a seizure. They administered painkillers and such to you."

"But from a week ago, they began stopping us. They said it would be better for not many voices to be made while you had a seizure. They said it could stimulate the remnant mana or something along that line."

Katlyn's expression hardened at once.

'It's not an illusion! No, there is no way that's an illusion. The hospital staff are hiding something from us....'

Katlyn's hand clenched onto the bed sheet, her mind couldn't rest in peace until she found the one who helped her.

"Mom, Dad, take me to the manager of the hospital."

"But you should be rest....." Her mother shut her mouth, seeing Katlyn's resolute expression.

Hence, they arrived at the manager's room in a minute.

Even after the haggard appearance of Katlyn, the manager kept his word with Lucas.

"I'm only asking you to let me check the camera recording of my room! What is wrong with that?!" Katlyn slams the table, exposing her presence.

The manager's eyes shrunk in surprise, 'She was only an F rank awakener when she was administered. But now she is already a rank E- awakener...'

Silence descended onto the room, the manager stared into Katlyn's eyes. He was keenly aware of what Katlyn was trying to search for. Hurven already reported his slip of the tongue a while ago.

"Sigh....Do you want to know about him, even though the other party doesn't want to? Why don't you ignore him, as he is trying to ignore you?" The manager tried somehow to take care of this matter, without offending any of the sides.

"No, I want to know about him, even if it's against his will." Katlyn clenched her fist almost causing it to bleed.

"Phew....His name is Lucas Frenris"

"What?"

"Like I said. If you doubt me, you can check his channel on Wiber to match the voices too. He seems like a famous singer, so you will find him just by typing his name." The manager dismissively answered Katlyn.

Katlyn stood in her position like a statue.

.....

The next morning, while the driver brought Lucas back home, he couldn't help but blankly stare at his mobile.

The notification value already surpassed the maximum count value.

'Right...I posted my general data on the channel, which contained my birth date too. Luckily I keep my mobile in silent mode, or else my mobile would have gone crazy in no time.'

Lucas scrolled through the comments, finding many familiar names.

Knowing the arrival of his birthday, Lucas had created a song matching the birthday theme. Which he uploaded quickly now.
