A Thief And A Liar

"Why do you want to make the duke jealous?" he asked, forgetting that he was treated as a bard or worse like a servant for the first time in his life. It didn't matter that he dressed like one all the time. Everyone knew he was a man not to be trifled with even if they did not know his identity. "Do you think he will take you as his duchess if you act in front of him?" the words were asked in a teasing tone.

But his eyes looked at her with pity. The girl was no doubt beautiful. Too bad that she had big dreams. If she had lived as a lover, perhaps, Cedric had kept her for a long time.

"I do not want your advice or questions. Either you want the offer or not?" she cut him with a sharp glare. It did not feel arrogant but dismissive as if she had enough of him. Not because he was a servant but he did not agree with her.

She would have told the king the same words if needed. His lips twitched at that thought.
