Ethan and Neil, who had been engaged in their argument, also abruptly stopped and hastily took their seats.
"Whoosh!"
The classroom door swung open, revealing a woman clad in glasses, a snug black suit, and a short skirt that accentuated her figure. She entered with an air of indifference.
The woman possessed a mature and strikingly beautiful face that could easily ensnare the hearts of men, but her chilly demeanor and sharp gaze made people think twice about approaching her. Her long black hair was pulled back into a ponytail that cascaded down her back.
"Damn! I forgot that Ms. Nathania was teaching the first period today, and I didn't do my homework!" Ethan, seated next to Aether, immediately broke into a cold sweat, his eyes filled with terror.
Nathania Veil was a young teacher who had recently joined Zeon Academy.
While she was undeniably beautiful and captivating, her severe and uncompromising demeanor struck fear into the hearts of her students whenever they had a class with her.
Students at Zeon Academy had even given her the nickname "Deadly Demoness," a moniker that accurately conveyed the terror she inspired.
What made matters even more intimidating was that she was the homeroom teacher for class 3-A, the very class Aether and his friends were in.
"Gulp!"
Ethan swallowed hard, his face a mask of fear, and he looked at Aether as if seeking salvation.
However, Aether simply yawned lazily and stared blankly ahead, completely ignoring Ethan's imploring gaze.
"Damn it! Aether must be doing this on purpose!" Ethan muttered to himself in despair, resigned to his fate.
"Tap! Tap!"
Nathania walked to the front and center of the classroom, pausing for a moment before turning to face the students.
"Good morning, everyone," she greeted them with a soft and pleasant voice.
"Good morning, Ms. Nathania!" The students all replied in unison, and seeing their response, Nathania nodded in satisfaction.
"Apparently, you're all very excited this morning, and I'm really happy to see this."
Nathania Veil's faint smile sent shivers down the spines of her students, as they knew all too well that her smiles often heralded something ominous.
True to form, Nathania produced a piece of white paper from her bag, causing a sense of foreboding to wash over the entire class. They were bracing themselves for the impending news.
"As you all know, we had our semester exams a few months ago," Nathania began, a faint smile still playing on her lips. Her students couldn't help but feel their anxiety rising. When she smiled like this, trouble was sure to follow.
She paused for a moment, her gaze sweeping over the room, making the atmosphere even more tense.
Then she focused on the piece of paper in her hand.
"The results are out today, and I will be announcing your rankings," she declared. The classroom fell into a heavy silence.
For many students, this was a moment of dread and despair. Ethan, in particular, felt like he might faint any second.
"Very well, let's start with the lowest ranking and work our way up," Nathania continued, her eyes occasionally drifting toward Ethan, who was beginning to feel increasingly uneasy.
"Gulp!" Ethan summoned the courage to raise his hand and stand up, drawing the attention of the entire class.
"Ms. Nathania?" he asked hesitantly, feeling a flush of embarrassment.
Aether, who had been observing the situation in amusement, couldn't help but chuckle at Ethan's predicament.
"I think our portly friend here might be a tad anxious about hearing his exam results," Aether commented, his tone a mix of sympathy and humor.
Nathania's gaze swiftly shifted to Ethan, a faint smile playing on her lips.
"Oh? Is there something you'd like to discuss, student Ethan?" She inquired, her arms folded across her ample chest, her playful smile causing Ethan's complexion to pale.
"Cough!"
He cleared his throat awkwardly, beads of sweat forming on his forehead.
"Um, can I make a small request?" he stammered, his embarrassment evident.
Nathania raised an eyebrow and nodded, her eyes still fixed on him.
"Of course," Nathania replied casually, her tone light.
"Ehem! That... Can't you start without the lowest rank and start from the second lowest?" Ethan scratched his head in embarrassment, his face turning slightly red as he spoke.
Aether, who had been observing, immediately widened her eyes and burst into laughter.
"Hahahaha!" His laughter erupted, causing the entire class to join in.
"Seriously? You're that uncertain?" One of the students asked incredulously, followed by others chiming in.
Neil himself couldn't contain his laughter at his friend's behavior.
He hadn't expected Ethan, of all people, to say something like that.
"I'm almost embarrassed to call you my friend, Ethan," Neil said, shaking his head as if he were despairing over his choice of friends.
Upon hearing this, Ethan glared at Neil with a mixture of anger and annoyance on his face.
"Damn it! Don't act like you're a saint, Neil!" Ethan snorted coldly and turned away in annoyance.
Aether shook his head in pity and remarked, "Fat guy, are you really that sure you got the lowest grade?"
Ethan sighed helplessly and nodded reluctantly.
"Yeah, because I genuinely believe I answered all the questions wrongly." Upon hearing Ethan's statement, the entire class burst into laughter once more.
Arshley, seated at the front, also chuckled and found the fat man quite amusing.
"Quiet!" Nathania, who had remained silent, immediately issued a stern command, causing everyone to fall silent instantly.
One could only imagine the power of her aura, which had earned her the nickname "Deadly Demoness" among the entire student body.
Nathania's gaze soon roamed through the students, finally fixating on Ethan.
"Gulp!" Ethan swallowed nervously and felt a creeping sense of dread as her direct stare bore into him.
"So, is that your request, Ethan?" Her voice, cold as ice, instantly froze the atmosphere in the classroom.
Ethan nodded rapidly, resembling a frightened chicken, but he dared not utter another word, for Nathania's aura was undeniably terrifying!
