After Avery finished speaking, he looked at Tom, who was in a dilemma.
His expression was normal, but his voice was tinged with suspicion. "With all due respect, Mr. Dorsey, you said that you couldn't bring Mr. Elicott in for investigation about Nigel's case because of insufficient evidence. But now that you've come to me to investigate Ms. Anabel Elicott's disappearance. What's the sufficient and convincing evidence you have now?"
Thinking of what Tom had just said, Avery mocked, "You're not saying that you come here because of my secretary's accident. I hope this is not the evidence you brought, are you?"
Tom admitted that he had not enough rationalization to back himself up, so he could only compromise and explain, "Mr. Gallard, you've misunderstood. I'm not here to investigate you. It's just that I happen to be doing something nearby and not very busy. Mr. Elicott said he wanted to ask you a few questions, so I came with him."
