Chapter 53 Too Good To Be True

Beth's POV

The atmosphere in the dining hall was still quiet and subdued.

No one said anything again, they all focused on eating their food in silence, and only the clatter of knives and plates were heard in the room.

I couldn't help but look at my left side from the corner of my eye where my father was sitting next to me. It was something I had never dared to imagine before.

I admit that it made me feel in a better mood, in fact, I could swear that this was the best food I had eaten in eleven years, all because my father was there with me.

Even the vegetables that were supposed to be bitter, were now sweet and delicious.

Was there something wrong with my sense of taste?

There was nothing wrong with my taste. It was just the happiness that surrounded me that made me taste bitter as sweet.

It felt so good to see my dad eat a meal with me, together with these people that hated me, and him for years in peace.
