"Mommy, what's wrong?"
Perhaps she had been lost in thought for too long, and the two little ones began to sense that something was off. When she turned back, Sylvia and Egbert looked at her worriedly.
Elizabeth pursed her lips and forced a smile after a moment.
"It's nothing. Just thinking about some work matters."
Sylvia, being innocent, accepted the explanation without further suspicion. However, Egbert remained silent and continued to look concerned.
"Mommy, don't think about it. It's time to finish work." Sylvia stood up and hugged Elizabeth's arm, speaking softly and comfortingly.
"Alright, Mommy knows. Can I ask you both some questions?" Elizabeth asked.
Sylvia nodded.
"Did Max go to school today during lunchtime?"
Both children shook their heads simultaneously.
Elizabeth narrowed her eyes upon hearing this.
"He went yesterday and the day before, but not today?"
