Elaina and Joyce then went on eating without saying anything more. There was an awkward silence in the air.
After their meal, which neither of them seemed to have enjoyed, the two walked out of the restaurant. There was serenity in the night sky. But Joyce was not in the mood to feel it at all.
"Elaina, can you walk with me a bit?" Joyce turned to look at Elaina, hoping that Elaina could be her company. That way, she could feel less lonely.
"Okay." Elaina nodded.
The two of them walked along the river. The wind blew their hair.
"What are your plans for the future?" Elaina started the topic of conversation, wanting to schmooze with her.
Joyce thought that Elaina was asking about marriage, so she smiled bitterly, "I don't have a plan. I think I'll just pretend that he doesn't exist and do what I need to do."
"I'm asking you if you intend to continue your studies in medicine?" Elaina asked.
