Only Regret

Dazai went to meet Atsushi and Akutagawa after he talked with Odasaku. Atsushi lost in the battle so he told Akutagawa to kill him, but Akutagawa decided to spare his life.

Dazai congratulated them. Walking near the two as he looked at Atsushi and fired him, telling the guy to go to the world of light with Kyouka.

Dazai explained to the two about the book. It is a blank literary book that can make what's written in it come true. Dazai sounded so happy while explaining it to them.

The book is near the root of the fake world. When someone writes in the book, the content associated with that world becomes. The real world is replaced by the possible world created in the book.

"I needed the power of the two of you." Dazai stated. "The uniqueness that occurs when the two of you unite, and the union of your souls is something that surpasses strength... I needed to make you fight for it. It was necessarily for you to face death and understand who the other was."

Dazai walked to the edge of the building. There was no fence or wall that could prevent a fall. On the other side, there was only emptiness. If he fell to the ground, there's nothing that could block him.

"Dazai-san," Atsushi said in a shaky voice. "It's dangerous, please come back here." He pleaded, looking at Dazai worriedly.

"I'm going to give you some advice. Don't tell anyone what I told you here. Only the two of you should know about it. If three or more people know it at the same time, this world will become unstable and the possibility that this world will disappear and crumble would increase.. So I leave the rest to both of you."

Dazai stepped back, heel went though the edge of the building, into the void.

"More than three people..." After counting the number of people inside his head, Atsushi looked at Dazai with a shocked face.

"Dazai-san, please wait. No way." He knows what Dazai is planning to do. He wants to run to Dazai and stop him for his plan to jump, but he can't even move his feet because his heart is beating too loud right now.

"Man in black..." Akutagawa narrowed his eyes and asked. "Tell me something... Why did you do it? Why did you stick to your plan to stop the extinction of this world?"

"It is true. I am not particularly interested and care about this world. The me from any possible world would surely say that. But you know..."

Dazai closed his eyes and smiled wistfully before he continued speaking.

"This is the only world where he's alive and writing a novel. I can't let that world be wiped away."

The wind blew with force. Dazai's body slowly leaned back.

"Ah, yes... It's finally here, the moment I had been waiting for. I'm pleased, I'm really pleased. I can now face the death that I've been waiting to meet..."

With his eyes still closed, he sees Odasaku's face at the bar while the said man is pointing a gun at him. Aside that, he also remembers the man's smiling face while listening to his nonsense and weird stories and jokes.

This is the moment that he's been waiting for. Everything that happened is according to his plan. He could now finally leave this fake world but...

"But I do have one regret, Odasaku…" he said with a low voice.

"I won't be able to read that novel you'll complete one day," he added.

That's the one thing that vexes me a little, he thought.

Dazai's body crossed the edge. The wind was blowing so hard as the sun finally went down.

Atsushi, who witnessed it, fell to his knees on the floor. He's too weak to shout, but he can hear himself screaming and shouting Dazai's name inside his mind.

Akutagawa couldn't judge if it was really worth it.

Only the wind—Only the clean wind that passed through Yokohama knew and witnessed everything that happened that day.
