Chapter 6

Savanna was walking aimlessly in the noisy night market, knowing little about where she could go.

Her phone rang. She thought it was Brandon calling. And then she saw the caller's name on the screen, 'Dad'.

She pressed the answering button and David Thompson's loving voice immediately came from the other side of the line.

"Savanna, are you home?"

Savanna's nose was sore when she heard David's voice. She almost cried again. She adjusted her emotions and slowly spoke.

"Dad, what's the matter?"

"I haven't been feeling well recently. Can you come back and stay for a couple of days?"

"Alright."

Savanna had been thinking of where she could go. David's call was just in time. Now she has a reason to go back to the Thompson's home.

Savanna took a taxi back to the Thompson's home.

On the balcony of Thompson's home, David, crippled, was reading the news about Brandon dating his lover in a foreign country. Hearing the sound of the door, he looked out. When he saw Savanna's fair little face, he quickly folded the newspaper in his hand and hid it under the chair, pretending to be looking at the stars in the sky.

"Savanna!"

"Dad. How are you?"

Savanna handed the luggage to Mary, who had brought her up. She then walked to the terrace, squatted down beside David, and reached out to massage David's injured leg.

"Where is Brandon? Why didn't he send you over?"

"He got a lot of things to handle in the company recently. He wanted to send me here, but I refused. I don't want him to be tired."

David couldn't have known Savanna better. He noticed the sorrow displayed between Savanna's eyebrows but didn't go on asking.

Savanna had not been home for a long time. She and David talked about many topics from childhood to now.

Seeing that it was getting late, Mary came up to remind Savanna.

"Ms. Thompson, the doctor said that Mr. Thompson should not sit for long."

Savanna secretly blamed herself and quickly ended the conversation with David. She pushed David into the bedroom, and after serving David to sleep, she took her phone to check the message. But no one ever called her.

Savanna did not know what she was expecting.

Because she hadn't slept at home for a long time, she found her bed unfamiliar. She couldn't fall asleep.

She thought she was probably getting weak nerves due to the troubles recently. Therefore, she got up and took a sleeping pill, which worked.

The next day, when Savanna was having lunch with David, a car whistle sounded in the yard. Mary looked out.

She then said joyfully, "Mr. Thompson, Ms. Thompson, it's Mr. Cassel."

Savanna could not believe that Brandon came over for her. They had argued badly the day before. She was about to ask Mary if she had made a mistake.

Then she heard the familiar footsteps outside.

Savanna couldn't help but look at the door. Brandon looked tall. His face was exquisite. His entire body projected an aura of a superior. He took off his coat and handed it to Mary. After greeting David, he looked at Savanna.

"Grandpa's 80th birthday is around the corner. Mom asked me to bring you back to the old house. We need to discuss and make a guest list."

As expected, his coming here was Giselle's idea.

The joy in Savanna's bosom was gradually drowned out by Brandon's voice.

"Take a seat, Brandon. Mary, bring a plate, fork, and knife for Brandon."

David had just finished speaking when he heard Brandon's indifferent voice.

"I've had lunch. You guys enjoy it."

After finishing lunch, Savanna walked out of the dining room. Brandon was sitting on the sofa playing on his phone.

She said, "Brandon, come with me."

Brandon frowned, put away his phone unhappily, and followed Savanna into the room with an indifferent expression.

After confirming that David and Mary could not hear their conversation, Savanna immediately put away her smile. She raised her head and took a deep breath, then turned to Brandon and met his cold gaze.

"Brandon, what do you mean?"

"Are you asking me why I came here?"

Brandon sneered when he saw Savanna pursing her lips without making any response.

"I said, Mom asked me to come over. If I don't come over, she will cut off the relationship between her and me."

Hearing this, Savanna chuckled.

She mocked, "I didn't expect people of your kind would obey your mother without question."

"People of my kind, Savanna? What kind?"

This was the first time that Savanna mocked Brandon. Brandon didn't feel well about it.

He did not want to argue. So, he suppressed his anger.

He said, "Your father is not in good health. My grandfather is getting old. You know how much my mom likes you. She likes you more than she likes me. Let's talk about it. Can we not announce the wedding news until they're doing better?"

"Sure."

After reaching an agreement, Brandon walked out of the room. Savanna followed him.

Savanna took off the coat on the hanger and put it on. At the same time, she turned back and shouted to the dining room.

"Dad, I'll go back now. I'll come back later to massage your back."

At the same time, Brandon's indifferent voice sounded in the living room.

"Mr. Thompson, I'll come back to visit you in a few days."

David quickly replied from the dining room.

"Alright."

Brandon took the coat from Mary and slowly followed Savanna out of the Thompson's home.

When Brandon came out, he saw Savanna get into his car. He also stepped forward to open the door and get in.

Suddenly, Savanna felt that something was wrong with the man next to her. She turned her head and was about to say something when the warm and wet kiss swept through her senses and took away her breath. The cold smell entered her nose, making her heart beat faster.

Brandon was a good kisser. Savanna's ears rang. Her mind went blank.

Brandon didn't like her indifferent attitude. His tongue curled up the tip of her tongue and brought her a numbing pain at the base of her tongue.

Just when she was almost out of breath due to lack of oxygen, his lips left her.

Then he said, "If you don't want your dad to be sad, be more compatible."

Savanna's head went numb. She looked sideways slightly. Only then did she realize that David was sitting in a wheelchair on the second-floor window of the Thompson's home, staring at them.

It turned out that he kissed her only because her father was watching.

Savanna felt like her heart was being torn apart, but she was smiling. She moved closer and kissed Brandon, her lips icy.

She adjusted her mood and looked at Brandon.

She said, "Brandon, thank you!"

A drop of something cold slipped from the wound on Savanna's kidney, like blood, or perhaps tears.

Brandon pinned the hair on Savanna's temples behind her ears with well-defined fingers. The coldness in his deep eyes gradually deepened.

"We have been together for two years. As long as you speak, I will do everything I can. I owe you. However, what Winnie has lost, I will also take it back from you on her behalf."

His voice was so cold that it made Savanna shiver in fear.

"Leo, drive."

Leo, who was in front, witnessed the dispute behind him and felt a sense of loss.

Brandon's voice brought him back to his senses. He responded with a 'yes' and stepped on the accelerator. The black car quickly drove out of the Thompson's home.

The neon lights flashed across the hood. Along the way, no one spoke. Savanna looked at the cold and indifferent Brandon. Thinking of what he had said just now, Savanna heard the sound of her heart breaking. Her stomach started to twitch.

The car arrived at the Cassel's home. As soon as they entered the living room, they saw Giselle and Harris sitting on the sofa. Giselle got up from the sofa to greet them as soon as she saw them.

"Savanna, it's all Brandon's fault. I apologize to you on his behalf."

"He didn't do anything wrong to me."

Savanna thought, there was nothing wrong with loving someone. He just doesn't love me.

"Giselle, don't worry. No matter what, you will always be my dearest mother-in-law."

"Thank you!"

Giselle was touched by Savanna's understanding. At the same time, she glared at her son.

"If you can forgive him, I can rest assured. In the future, if he dares to bully you, tell me. I'll do you justice."

"Alright," Savanna answered gently. She almost did not have the courage to look back at Brandon, who was behind her.

Brandon and Savanna just sat down when Giselle handed Savanna a book. She said gently to Savanna,

"Those are all famous people from the upper class of New York. Harris and I have picked some. Take a look and see who shall be deleted. The final decision is yours."

Savanna, holding the notebook, could not help but look at Brandon. Brandon got up and went to the kitchen to get water.

"It's up to you!" he said before leaving.

Not knowing if it was to improve their relationship, Giselle insisted that they stay home for the night, saying it was too late to go back.

Savanna read the names on the pamphlet over and over again, and finally, she added a name at the end of the list, Cain Wilson.

She was a little thirsty. So, she went downstairs to get some water. When she passed by the empty living room, she seemed to see a white shadow passing by the stairs.

"Who is it?" Savanna shouted.

Fear gripped her heart.

No one but the sound of the night wind passing through the living room responded to her.

Savanna felt numb. She walked upstairs and looked up. Under the art corridor, a white shadow was floating. The woman's long black hair flew in the wind as she slowly turned back.

The cup fell off Savanna's hand with a bang.

The weird feeling gave her a creep.

She closed her eyes and opened them again.

The white shadow did not disappear but instead became clearer and clearer.

Seeing the curved eyebrows and delicate facial features of the white shadow, Savanna thought of a person. Winnie's name appeared in Savanna's mind. Savanna's lips instantly went deadly pale.

"Savanna, you killed me. Now, you go to hell!"
